Finally got around to fitting them. Thanks to Ando for the pics and tips in the workshop section.

For the record - if you are going to do 12" apes you need to extend the wiring a good 6" and its a prick of a job. Clutch cable probably needs 4" but I got away with it for now re-routing it, I'll get an extended cable in a week or 2.  Brake line is untidy but plenty long enough.

I know were you're comming from there mate. Best mod I ever did was putting a set of 14" Chubbie's on the Road King.

    Comfort plus, enjoy

    G'day skin,
recomend over stock roadie bars? for me - yes. I'm about 5'8" and used to cop it between the shoulder blades. Only just put them on but going to do 1000km's + this weekend so will let you know how they go.
I think lofty is probably a bit of a taller bloke than me (does "lofty" give that away?) but 14" was to tall for me.
Ordered from M&M's for about $300 delivered, fitted myself (fiddly shit but not hard) should have extended clutch cable, and will, but you can get away with it if you re-route.
If you don't want to buy extended wiring do it yourself - not hard and save about $50, or go through hillside custom cycles and get the whole kit for around $500 or $900 including controls (chrome master cylinder etc.)

I went with the Chubbies, Bike Works in Adelaide ordered the whole kit with the clutch, FBW leads, brake lines etc etc all in the kit.

They did all the work and it cost me around the $1k mark supplied and fitted.

Couldn't be fucked in trying to do the work myself.

I'm 6'3", so the extra height of the 14's comes in handy. Most comfortable modification I have ever done.

    Regards Lofty

sorry - forgot to mention - wild 1 chubbys for me aswell.
just did 1600kms with them over the weekend and a HUGE improvement over stock. only thing with me is anything over $1.30 and its like a big wind sock. Puts a bit of pressure on the hands being pulled against the bars.
Have done something fitting them myself - the cruise control keeps dropping out now. Not sure if it's the larger grips bouncing the TBW sensor or my wiring...

Stumbly, Let me know if you find out what is making the cruise control drop out, I did some bars last week and the same thing is happening to mine, it's a 09 RK. It has happened a couple of times, seems to be when you go over some rough road. I think I know which wire it is that is causing it, when I finished soldering it I thought, "I'm not sure about that one" but kept on going. To me it is one of the wires on the throttle hand, but don't think it was the FBW as they are completly seperate, I think it may have been in the set / resume wires?? Just a thought.

Sorry to rehash an old thread but where did you guys by the bars from. I am looking at the 14's. Is there anyone locally that will sell online at a reasonable price?

M&M from the US. Wild1 Chubby apes with braided lines, banjos, electrical extensions, etc. for just over $700. Fitting is extra.

Couple of nice rides Stumbly and Loftybob. I have a 08 RK and I am thinking of putting on the Chubby RK 2 Bars (518). These are a 35.5 wide, 5.5 rise and a 14.25 pull back. Low and wide. Everything I am hearing suggests that apes are much more comfortable than the low and wide bars - any advice would be appreciated before I outlay.  Cheers

    G'day scruffy,

I've taken the 12" apes off now and fitted fat boy bars with 6" risers / curved 1" back. Reckon the apes were the ducks guts and very comfy, will probably put them back on.
If you want the RK fat bars that ozyape is using I have a set with risers in the shed - I put them in the for sale section a while ago with no bites so just put them away until someone needed them. Open to offers. But IMO the apes are a better option.

    Hope that helps
