Do a search for "Iron 883 mods". That brings up a bucket load of old topics with the answers you are lookin for.

Seems most people tip their hat to a breather/ tuner and exhaust upgrade (also suspension). Not as many that have bothered with the 1200 upgrade. I can see why....they are more an agile bike (as far as HD's go)right out of the box, rather than a highway sofa with fangs.

Don't listen to that Jimmy or Fangio - HD geniuses that they are (and what Forum would be complete without a couple of quality smarties), the Iron is the most fun bike around. Lighter than a regular sportster. Take a look at Daimohs with the breather, SE pipes and tuner. Very quick. Every garage should have one. The 1200 would be a plus with a pillion though and yes the suspension needs help but ditto the Nightster and 48.

There are a heap of options out there that can potentially give you up to 90hp +, however extremely costly exercise (unless you can do the work yourself) and unfortunately (even being an Iron owner) I don't see a lot of value in it. Was watching a 1200 upgrade kit on eBay USA, the part sells for just under $1k US + 250 to ship, massive saving on the AUS based price but the installation quotes I have received are almost equivalent to the cost of the kit. I bought the Iron as an introduction to the brand, used to ride Sportsbikes and wanted something a little bit different and the Iron covered the bases. I love the bike, in the process of dressing her up like a bobber, had it for a year, planning on keeping it forever, but will eventually buy another HD that goes a little harder, I am pretty keen on the Vrods.

The week I bought it, I did the stage 1 upgrade and for an 800 I am pretty happy with the way she goes. Obviously doesn't have the same power as my K8 GSXR 1000 did, but at the end of the day doing excessive speeds only ends in disaster! I weigh roughly 72kgs, my wife is about 55kgs and we get around on it just fine, changed the rear suspension to a 2 up HD heavy duty shock and all is well.

If you haven't dont it already, invest in the Stage 1 upgrade.........................my understanding is that the two into one exhaust system is the best for power, little ugly but does increse the output on Stage 1 compared to twin pipes like short shots etc.

P.S - If you're really keen to spend a fortune on ya bike, join the following forum.  These guys are XL fiends and there are a heap of threads about how to maximise the HP out of a Sporty:

P.P.S - Still watching that kit though!! LOL

Take a set of those you beaut Jap 1200 pistons

Rebore the barrels to suit each piston (remember which piston fits which barrel)

Take the 883 heads (better combustion shape than the 1200 heads) Take them to a HJ wizard to port, re seat the valves and drill and tap another plug hole in each.

    I screaming eagle ignition module.

re jet the CV carb (no need for a Mikuni.

Bolt together and there you have 90 ponies under your arse

NB. good idea to add a couple of cogs on the gear box sproket.
