good luck with it and be cautious of the scammers
Wow, this is terribly funny I have to say. Never thought a single post could get so controversial. My apologies.
I dont see the difference between aHarley imported by stealership or private. They are both imports, not made in Australia, its just a matter of how one decides to spend ones $$$. Each to there own.
Cheers Bloodnut
By chance I was speaking with an Importer the other day - he does top of the line boats and (I think) an occasional car from the USA - and he was telling me tales of woe about people (Aussies) thinking this import lark is the quick way to riches. Apparently the 'I'll bring in a few bikes/cars/boats to on-sell' is very common amongst the Aussie male and has been for a while - three years at least, so there's nuthin' new in that!
But this bloke does it for a living and he's amazed at how many people have done their dough - or rather having a looooong wait to on sell - on account of the proliferation of imported toys from the US in particular.
I've done the personal HD import thing but only for me - I have no intention of selling it. I needed a 'new bike' (2nd hand actually) and the US prices were ridiculously cheap with all costs considered. I just love Harleys and here was an opportunity to own another for half the Aussie going price!
No greed intended, meant or implied!
But also beware the Tax Man if ya importing and on-selling too many bikes. Neighbours and busy bodies have dobbed for lesser things...
Greedy Bastards = Entrepreneur = Tall Poppy ready to be hacked down by those with a different mindset
Market forces determine the "sale value" of something - personal attachment determines the "private value" - if you never sell you never lose money ....
"Greedy Bastards" know that if no one wants to buy widgets in one country and widgets are really popular in another country .all they have to do is jump on a ship and go to the place where they are plentiful and bring it back to the place where they are scarce and/or expensive.... been going on for 1000's of years....
Some "Greedy Bastards" that come to mind... Sir Walter Raleigh + Tobacco .... Marco Polo + Noodles (No Victoria spaghetti wasn't invented by the Italians...) the Dutch East India Company + spices, ... Frasers + Ducati/HD....
Seriously ... it's like reality TV ... if you dont like it - turn it off ... if you dont want to buy a grey import - Don't .... simple -
Tthere will always be someone out there that would LOVE to own a harley ... any harley ... even if the only thing they can afford is a purple 883 with a pink seat, 10"apies with tassles hanging out the end that no one else wants....... so it is being sold cheap ... does it matter to him/her if it is H1 or H5 ... Fuck no it is his her first harley and s/he's going to be over the moon that it is affordable...
Let's all get over pissing on each other ...there are enough cops and cunts in cars out there doing that already so lets all hold hands, hug , sing Kum-by fuckin-yah and get over what some bloke might or might not do with his own money, balls and brains.

26/9/2011 My bike is in Queens land imports for compliance. The bike must be stock standard for compliance as i require exhaust system standard mirrors and complete head light Assembly extra costs to me on top of the compliance between $2,500 to $3,000 thy say + the supply and fit of the extras that i have mention. Bruise had told me it will take 1 month for the compliance tag to be processed.

Hi Manny
Im using choppaweeza to import my bike. At present it has just left USA. So far iv had no problems. As yo say the bike must be stock standard, make the changers you wish to after the bike in your hands. Also compliance chargers are all are around the fee you paid for, depending on the bike
Once you get the bike in your hands, you should be feeling ok you went through this proceedure.
