The NSW Parliament has passed legislation changing the way written-off vehicles will be managed in NSW. Background From 31 January 2011, all NSW vehicles notified to the Written-off Vehicle Register (WOVR) will be classified as statutory (non-repairable) write-offs. Vehicles classified as statutory write-offs will not be able to be registered. They can only be used for parts or scrap metal. The laws will apply to NSW light vehicles including trailers, caravans and motor bikes. There will be some limited exemptions to the legislation. Vehicles recorded as repairable write-offs before 31 January 2011 will continue to be classified as repairable on the WOVR and will be permitted to be repaired and reregistered according to current RTA business rules for a period of six months.

Written-off vehicle
reforms 2011
Damn.
Used to be a spray painter years ago, and I can hear the leagues of panel beaters straining over this one.
Structurally repairing and then refurbishing late model "write offs" on weekends and days off was half their bread and butter (the barely written off ones - insurance CBF fixing).
not such a bad idea , unusual for the people in power .
Insurance companies would have to be sweating on this yeah?
Or will it just mean more failed claims....
Remembering written off doesnt have to be structurally damaged beyond repair as most people believe. Its more if the cost of repairs are considered too high compared to (not higher than) the market value of the vehicle. So if a car backs into your HD beast full of extra bling and its only scratched and dented all over (but still runs fine) it can still be written off - if replacing all the panels/fittings/tank with genuine HD from aussie dealer prices comes close to the market value. If you were written off you wouldnt recieve the value of any bling.
Correct me if Im wrong...

will stop people being sold dodgy repaired cars
