This has come to me via a member of another board in the states today:

    QUOTE:

"US Harley Dealers can't ship to Canada???

Tried to buy parts from Zanotti's HD due to the markup in Canada thanks to Deeley Canada's monopoly. Couldn't add a Canadian address to ship to. I sent an email to Zanotti's to find out why.

Here is the reply I got back:
    Hi,
We are sorry to say that with the recent policies handed down by HD we are no longer doing International sales/shipments. This includes Canada"

    END QUOTE

I think what Zanotti's wanted to say was: [THE CAPS ARE MY INSERTION]

We are sorry to say that with the CONTINUAL BITCHING AND COMPLAINING FROM DEALERS EXISTING IN INTERNATIONAL MARKETS ABOUT LACK OF SALES BECAUSE THEIR MARKET SHARE IS GOING OVERSEAS TO THE DISCOUNT DEALERS DUE TO RIP OFF PRICING, HD HAVE STIPULATED THAT WE CAN  no longer UNDERTAKE International sales/shipments. This includes Canada".

And to finish my personal rant let me add:
Personally I'll do without before I spend my heard earned aussie dollars on bolt on bits here in Oz. There's more than one way to skin a cat....

I'll feel better after a Bex and a lie down...

The more I hear about this situation, the more I believe the rat is HD not the local dealers.  The local dealers have no choice but to buy their parts off of the HD wholesaler in their country, who in turn have an agreement with HD USA as the wholesaler for that market.  It's these wholesalers who take their cut and force up prices in Markets like Australia.  I've spoken to a few dealers lately and they are not making huge profits from parts that some would have you believe.

S*%T, I hope they don't try and stop M&M from international shipping. From what I see on this forum, half Mark's money must come from Aussie orders. I'd better get a parts order in while the dollars good and before HD big wigs shut him down too.

Isn't there a thread on here about setting up a US address? I think ZYBAN was the culprit. Why wouldn't we just do that then get that company to forward the parts. As someone said, there's always a way around something.

I am pretty sure that there is an import duty on parts. I think it works the same as the duty for importing vehicles
    1. take the value of the imported goods and add 10% import duty.
    2. then add 10% GST to the above total.
Could be wrong I thought I was once but realised I made a mistake.

The dealers are on a big discount, however the reason they are not making a huge profit is because of people importing parts & they're not selling as many parts. It's a bit of a dog chasing it's tail effect.

Oh yeah and lets not forget the cost to the dealers for the big flash shops, transport, stock on hand and all the shiny new bikes on the floor in the showroom.... Wondering how much of this is mandated by the US headquarters......

Interesting site Bones. Does this mean that we dont have to stay under the $1000.00 limit for importing goods. Also would this agreement nulify the restrictions in place for importing any vehicle manufactured after 1989 as per customs website. It would seem that there are regulations that are working against one another

Say what you will, I'm afraid I've been through the Dealer merry-go-round in regards to crap service, incompetent employees, shoddy service and paying through the nose for spare parts & bling. A couple of years ago Harleys were walking out of the shops at a fast rate, they were selling themselves...no effort required. While this was happening, we were treated like crap by these wonderful dealers. Why should they care, making money was easy. How the worm turns. Now, I will purchase to get the best deal for ME, which usually means going O/S . Although not before sourcing here first. Not long ago I got a great deal from Walka at VPW for a set of forward controls that could not be bettered. Good for him...he got the business, plus gave a discount for being a Forum member. Why can he supply at a price & the Dealers want more than twice as much. In closing, nothing pisses me off more than going in to buy bling (or parts) at the dealers & they reach for the Zodiac parts book. HD themselves are buying after market goods & selling them to us as HD (Probably license agreement). We the public can not buy direct from Zodiac. Whats all this bulshit I hear about free trade.

(To be fair, I am refering mainly to a particular Dealership located in Victoria...so there must be some good dealerships out there somewhere...they can't all be bad).
