Fitting a Duece wheel ?

I've just got on to a new take off 2004 Deuce wheel, that I intend to fit to my 2000 FXDX.

Apparently they are meant to fit up easily, and the 160/70/17 tyre fits OK, as it's only 10mm or so wider than the 150/80/16 now fitted.

Has anyone here done this, or know of anyone that has ? I think the solid disk rear with the spoke front will look good.

    Cheers

don't know mate, its not much wider so should be ok, check axle/wheel bearing sizes and the overall width of hub, check for any offset differences and go from there.

personally I'm not a fan of the solid wheel, I like spokes but thats just me, good on you for having a go

The axle and bearings are the same @ 3/4", and I can soon machine up different spacers if needed.
Other reasons I'm keen is the wider lower profile tyre for better road holding (and tubeless !).
The fat profile 150/16 is really a stretch on the 3 inch rim, and I run out of tread on the edges !
This is about the only pic I can find of one fitted to a Dyna:

Made a start today. Looks like it will be relatively easy.

Now need to relocate the indicators. Gotta love the wider Tyre.

Finished fitting the Deuce wheel today, and took the bike for a test run. A few issues fitting the caliper, but easily sorted.

Had a new rear tyre fitted ( Michelin 160/70/17), that ended up being slightly narrower than the Dunlop, but has a rounder profile.

Looks pretty cool speedzter. Only problem with the DX's is the clearance under the rear guard.

Thanks, and your Dead right there !
But it's price you have to pay for one of the best handling Harley's made I guess ( along with the True track !).
I was thinking of trying lowering blocks, to see how they affect handling.

Yep, mine's as low as all hell and don't corner too well.

Speedzter, lowering blocks are cheap enough to try. Pappa Smurf  has the same year as yours and uses them and reckons they are pretty good, although I think he has trouble touching the ground more so. I tried them with my stock shocks but still much too much clearance and I'd probably use them with my 10.5" shocks if I could.

if you go to the true track website i think they explain it something to do with the stabalizer bar if its not level it can have an adverse reaction.if your going to lower your bike do the research first. mines awsome never ever dreamed a harley would handle so well.must be a guru on here who could confirm it.do i have a second to that
    cheers

The only I could find on True Track site is this:

"Lowered motorcycles are EXTREMELY difficult to control or correct weaving and wobbling because of the limited suspension travel especially when the swing arm pivot is below the axle."

With the longer travel of the FXDX shocks, lowering the swingarm by 1" shouldn't be to bad, and the shocks would still have more travel than a standard Dyna.
But to tell the truth, I think I'll leave it as is. Function over form.
