An oil cooler can't hurt, as long as it has a bypass thermostat.
Melbourne can have hotter days than say, Brisbane.
Oil temps will be around 100 c. +/-

Mine has travelled close to 800km and is due for its first service.

I noticed it  was running at 230f. (110deg) The outside temp was around 38deg.

I have been told it should be lower after the oil is changed.

    Nothing wrong with 110 @ 38 deg C.
Synthetic can handle a bit over 130C with no drama's, mineral a bit less.

    Thanks for that info speedzter,

no need for a oil cooler at this stage.
