sorry guys,im new to computers and still working out how these forums work,im 31 and live in adelaide,i  own a suzuki sv650 that is my daily ride but have always wanted a fat boy,i have finally saved up 20k but im begining to believe ill need at least another 12k as im leaning towards a new one simply because im not really mechanically minded so reliability is a big thing, however there is a stunning 96 fat boy for sale in adelaide, everything is billet, including the 18'wheels,it only has 20k on the clock and he wants 26k for it.I could access the extra 6k if i really needed it but im not confident enough to go through with it as i dont know enough about the reliability of that year, and for the same price i could get a much newer one that has a bigger  fuel injected ballanced engine,6 speed box etc but just isnt as appealing to the eye, thanks for your help

Just a thought - I'm mid way through negotiations on buying a used bike from the USA. Harley prices over there are half the price of ours here. Add the importation and compliance costs etc and you will still save many thousands of Aussie Dollars. Just sayin'...

Here's one well known Dealer in the US. Click on the link and then 'motorcycle inventory'. Then click on the 'Fat Boys' and it'll take you to two pages of used Fattys. Click on the pictures and have a look at those prices! Pretty sure we can import only 2008 and older models (and they must be used bikes).

    www.barnettharley.com

Or type 'US imports' into the 'search' function on this forum and there's plenty of threads and advice on importing (though use a bona fide Importer). Here's a recent one:

I'm not saying 'do it', but I reckon more people should be aware of this very good option. And for disclosure purposes I can assure I have no link to Barnett's other than being an occasional customer - like lots of other Aussies. Mate, you've saved $20K and think maybe you need spend another $12K? No you don't.

Good luck with all this and it's your money, but I want you and everyone else to be aware there are options on super costly Harleys. Happy to chat further if this butters your cracker.
