Don't mind the tank paint job, pretty good looking bike.

Good touring range hey Steamer. I know the 48 is a cool bike but that small tank would drive me nuts!

My last top up worked out at 4.7 litres per 100 which would give a range of over 350km's, not bad hey. Yes my fuel light comes on aound the 230km mark which is a bit early according to the workshop manual.

It seams strage the HD would move away from the 21" Front Wheel that all the Custom Range has had for years just for this Bike

and it's got that stuped eyebrow.  Sorry guys but as a 06  Custom owner I dont like it

I didn't think much of it when I first saw it but it has grown on me.  Apparently the 16 makes it handle better, I have a 21 and haven't ridden a 48 so can't really comment.  I do think a 19 or 21 option should be available though,   The concept of ordering from factory with choice of seat, handlebars, mids or forward controls, and wheels is a good one though and makes it cheaper - ie US$180 for miniapes instead of stock - which comes with different speedo mount.  No cost for solo seat instead of dual.  The rest of the stuff is dealer fitted so no change in costings there.

The fat tyres look alright but I can't get away from fact they remind me of a TW200 Yamaha.

Is it more like an evolution of the 48 with a bigger fuel tank???? I must say I love my custom with the 21 inch front wheel and solid rear.

I don't like my solid rear wheel, doesn't have any give like a spoked wheel.

I think I know what you mean 880, I am running Ikon shocks on the rear so the solid rear wheel feels fine. The standard HD suspension is very ordinary.

A spoke wheel will disperse some of the energy of an impact through the whole wheel, while the solid just takes it at the point of impact and makes a noise similar to how you'd expect a train axle being dropped onto rails would sound.  This is only on serious bumps, like a damaged join to a bridge at highway speed.  I also wonder what difference in rear braking performance there is between laced and solid rear wheels.  I'm sure better shocks would make it a lot better though as it's only when it bottoms out.

I've got solid alloy wheel, not laced.
