Is there any advantage of putting the newer 96 heads on a TC88 soon to be 97". I asume they would fit but unsure of any benifits. If unsure, ask the experts.

No. Not S&S. Brought the kit from Revolution Cycle Performance Engines in the USA. Barrels, pistons, rings, gaskets delivered for around $500.00. Was quoted locally $400 just to bore the barrels and somewhere between $3.5K and $4K to do the whole job. Figured I could swing a spanner and read a manual ($12 on CD). I was after a budget build and like playing around with motors. I'm sure others will think it is wrong or there is more to the job than I think but with this forum, how can I go wrong !!

I think it will work well for the money. I already have SE211 cams and from reading a bit they say they are wasted on a stock motor? I am only a novice so please be nice if I make a stupid remark. A bump in compression will also help. I might do a build thread when I am ready with all the gear good to go. No rushing these things. I was tossing up whether to put a larger intake valve in the 88 heads and clean up the ports but I read somewhere that the 98 heads are a lot better. I just need to find some for the right price.

Just a heads up, if your putting bigger inlet valves in make sure the pistons you use have enough clearance in those valve reliefs.
If unsure just do a mock build with plasticine to check.
That's if you did not already know this

Thanks for the info guys. All appreciated. Need the black heads as I have a Night Train. The pistons I have can accomodate a 2.1 valve according to the supplier. It might not be worth stuffing around with? Just port and polish the ones I have. Dunno. I figure since I have them off I might as well do something to them.

Plenty available on Ebay motors in the US, for around the $200 mark.........+ shipping to Oz = $90-$150.

Just bought a set off 2011 103 bagger for $200.........sent to WFO Larry for some porting work, you might as well get em ported while they are over there!

You could get lucky and find a set here for around $300 but they are few and far between!

and in case your wonderin.......no, I'm gonna keep my standard ones!

Well I can get some black 96 heads locally for $200. What is the referance to intake flanges? Will I need these as well?

One more question forum gurus! Are the exhaust ports the same diameter ie will my current exhaust match the new 96 head size? I thought I read somewhere they increased it slightly. It may be more stuffing around than its worth?

    Thanks Hilly.

So do ya all think it is worth it or do I spend the money on the 88 heads I have? I'm not looking for a wild motor. Just a little more punch for my dollar$$.

Did I say this is a great forum. You guys are so helpfull to any newcomers.

    Cheers'n'beers

What if they were off a 2006 FXSTBI. Did the main changes happen 2007 as reference before? I will need to check if this is the case.

Well I have the 96 heads. They look a little different but not a lot. I have started fitting pistons to barrels for something to do. I have checked the intake flanges that I have and they fit the 96 heads. So why would I need the other ones mentioned earlier?

Will check that out. The holes line up and the gaskets seem the same but i will check for any offset.
