I have brought a bit of stuff over the net and a small amount local. To date, the stuff I have gotten from the states has been because of the huge rip off price in the HD dealers. But I must say HH are making a effort to improve. A couple of years ago I brought my sporty I wanted forward controls thrown in they said no, offered them to me at a discount price. I went to a different deal and got them for free. Their loss. I have a few friends that have been dealing with them now and have been looked after very well. I have and will always price local and compare to importing. 'IF' the price is fair I'll buy locally. And I will check out HH next time. See how they compare.

Yep I'd say HH have seen the light and are atleast trying to move with the times and good on 'em. Was offered some pipes dirt cheap, well below what I could ever hope to get them from the states for.

Prior to purchasing from OS I will always try HH, VPW and even HD from now on. Like anything in life I guess it always pays to do some research before spending your hard earned.

the guy from HD Aust rang me back today was very helpful he had not heard anything but is heading to the states for a meeting on monday and will ask the question when he is over there. He even rang me back later in the afternoon that he is looking in it. I deal with car makers every day and I can not get that sort of service off any of them

Got to say was very impressed with the way he handled my questions and how helpful he was

Well personaly i don't think the big boss in yankee land woke up one morning, went into the boardroom and said , I had a relavation , them convicts from Aussie land , are buying lots of our products , and thats the reason Joe blo the yankee dealer is ordering lots from us , so lets put a stop to it , lets stop the money coming into the good old U S of A.

i THINK IT WOULD OFF WENT MORE LIKE , HAD A CALL FROM OUR aUSSIE COUSINS there not happy , they are not making the big profits on spare parts anymore , now the Aussie Dollar has dropped more and more of them convicts have woke up and relized how much money they can save and are buying direct from the USA .

Don't matter though we must stop it , cos after all they import our bikes so tell any dealer has of bla bla , there NOT ALLOWED TO DO IT .

Make no bones about it , its all coming about because of complaints from where AUSTRALIA , and who in Australia would complain , think about it grasshopper .

Personaly i think it time to put the complainers in there place . GO AFTERMARKET.

Like anything, It's only illegal if they get caught.
Sure, you can't stop them selling overseas or control it completely but if they get caught it will could cost them their lively hood.
The aftermarket will more than likely gain business out of this, but compare apples with apples and to make it fair each apple farm should have similar opportunities, but unfortunately for Aussies the Fair Trade agreement favours goods Ex USA.
Prices are cheaper than ever before  in Australia so is it fair the that Aussies and Aussie Job's are put at risk of closing it’s doors because of the GFC effecting the US dealers has made them pursue alternative markets.
Sure, shop around but at least keep your money in OZ.
Why not give the Dealer the opportunity to match the price but remember there is no warranty on goods purchased outside of the US as we tend to find out the hard way, I know I have.
I now i'll pay a small premium for good service, Supporting local business and Australia plus after sales support & warranty.

Why give the dealers another chance on price? They have had more than enough chances to provide a decent price or service from me and at all times have failed. One exception...... A dealer in Melbourne who is a fair bit away from me....And I have to pass 2 HD outlets to get there.

So NO NO NO NO........ No more chances from me...... and as for the cry of """Australian Jobs"""....... BULLSHIT!   I didn't see any of the HD TEAM at the protests against "WORK CHOICES".  I own a business and am asked to drop prices at least on 85% of quotes....Sometimes I do!

Just to add my very recent dealing in regards to Harley Heaven, i bought my new Softail Convertible CVO from HH Ringwood, and i cannot praise them any higher! The whole buying experience was fantastic from start to finish. The salesman that organised my bike sale, Jamie Leonard, was top notch the whole way through, fellow rider, at grass roots level with what we all are after in terms of customer satisfaction and service. Shit, even their finance/business manager their rides an HD!

Living near Newcastle NSW, meant i had to fly down to Melbourne, HH being in the eastern suburbs, airport in the west. They advised me to catch the shuttle to city rail station, jump on the train for Ringwood, off at Ringwood, and a 5 minute walk to the dealership. Cost me 21 dollars, cheap as chips! Did all the checks, paperwork for the sale etc that afternoon, all good. Ihad organised a pub room to stay the night nearby, but it was probably close to a couple of kms away from the dealership. Jamie said to me hey, cant have you walking that far, uve got a friggen big ride home 2morrow! Jumped in his ute, and he dropped me at the pub, even said he could start early the next day and he would pick me up in the morning on the way to work, so i could get on the road as early as possible.

Had never been to Melbourne before , so i had no idea on how i needed to get on to the Hume hwy, and i was awee bit worried on getting lost/ not being used to a new bike. When Jamie picked me up next morning, he had even went to the trouble of researching at home, the easiest and simplest way out of Ringwood to the Hume, avoiding toll stations, as well as morning rush hour traffic into the city. The way he mapped out and printed a copy of was really easy to follow, even the route was through some brilliant riding roads, Ringwood to lillydale, yarra glen,  out to benalla, and on to the Hume.

    They certainly get my appreciation!
