Just thought i'd say how much fuel quality has improved here in NSW in last ten years.

if you had a carb jetted to run sweet ten years ago, it would be way rich today, we can also run much higher comp than we could ten years back.

i like BP98 , seems to be good all over, with other brand's you get good & bad place to place. thats here in NSW.

what have others found to be best were they are?

i think in the US they rate there's @ PON, we rate our's @ RON. bit hard to compare directly.

I have backed to backed 3 brands of 98 RON fuel, the last time was at the Orange Kart Raceway on a 20 degree day at midday where there was no temp variables or track variables for an hour or so.

    98 Caltex Vortex. 8 laps, 45.34 best lap @ 11,300 revs, temp 223
98 BP Ultimate. 8 laps, 45.01 best lap @ 11,820 revs, temp 219, needed more juice as indicated by the tuning lights but revved harder
98 Shell Optimax 8 laps, 45.36 best lap @ 11,560 revs, temp 221 had to lean of a tad. more revs than Vortex but a tad slower by 200ths

Outcome after back to back testing on several occasions is BP Ultimate, more revs, more torque, runs a tad cooler due to requiring a bit more juice on the tune.

So, the bike, the cars, the karts and (even the whipper snipper and mower with leftover) get BP Ultimate.

And - I am talking 3 tenths difference only however, 3 tenths a lap can take you from a podium finish to mid field finish...

I use Caltex or BP 95 where possible... heard a few reports from dealers that 98 outputs too much black shit.....

I find very little difference between 95 and 98...

Try to stay away from Shell (world over that is.. fuel is dirty)

[edit to read 95 and 98]

Interesting they tell you that HO, I have found 98 to be the cleanest burning. Just pulled the top off a rotax engine that uses 50 to 1 oil mix that's done 15 hours hard work. Nice even burn on the crown of the piston, the combustion chamber was clean as the day it was assembled. I wonder if they say that from experience or hearsay? I am no expert on fuel but have done lots of back to back testing and dyno runs that keep me using 98.

Hi krash, great track orange, made a few changes and extensions since you were on there, I still reckon it's the best track I have raced, russel ingall and mark webber both have similar comments on orange. Must catchup for a beer sometime.

Dave... one of the people who told me was Pattisons of Bunbury... probably the best dyno in WA, especially for PowerComanders

I worked in the oil industry for a number of years and apart from the overseas fuel, it depends on what company refinery you have in your state, if there is only one refinery in your state, (apart from the imports) then that is what you get and the oil companies reciprocate this through out OZ.

The only time it changes is when the rating is higher than 95, and then all they do is add the additive to the tanker while it is being filled up, depending on where it goes depends on whether it is call Ultimate, Vortex etc.

Over here in Wait Awhile we have BP and that is what goes to all the major servos, so I buy from the better priced servo, never had a problem yet.
