I bought my 2010 Road King in November 2009 and up until last Friday had travelled just over 8,000 kays, the majority on day trips with my wife on her 2008 Bonneville. I think the maximum daily distance we ever covered was only about 400 kms but we do get out most weekends.
On Saturday I left Melbourne solo and travelled the 800kms to Adelaide. No big deal for many of you but for me it was my first big trip. Admittedly it took me almost 11 hours but I was still grinning when I arrived. The bike was simply magnificent to ride, as stable and comfortable (I do use an Air Hawk) as could be imagined and the cruise control as good as any I've ever used in a car. In fact I couldn't contemplate this particular trip without a cruise control.
The trip back was split in two, spending last night in Horsham and then completing the trip to Melbourne this morning. Having spent the afternoon restoring the bike to its pre locust glamour I'm ready to go again.
Some of you may recall from an earlier post that only a couple of days after I traded my Street Bob on the RK I dropped the brand new bike and began to question whether I had made a rather large and expensive mistake. If I still had any lingering doubts they are now gone.
I apologise for a rather self indulgent and pointless post but I'm still on a high and needed to tell someone.
The only mods I have on the bike are a set of SE Fatshotz slip-ons, and a sissy bar and rack - both of which were utilised for my HD luggage in which I had enough gear for at least two weeks rather than the 3 nights I was on the road.
Just keep stringing them 800km days together and you can get anywhere.
I bought my RK one month before yours and it now has 35,000km on it.
Keep enjoying it in the manner it was built for.
cheers Surly
No do not miss the fairing at all. Mine was an older model 1996 vintage and the FLH has come a long way in that time. I like the screen as it seems to suit my height pretty good ( I am over 6ft ) really pleased at having a Harley that actually stops, ABS Brembo s etc. at time of purchace did look at the Electraglide standard, but like the RKC better. ( Electraglide was cheaper). Old bike was a classic Ultra ( handled like a pig on roller skates) but I did not use all the gear. Like to hear the bike when I ride, not the missus nagging on the intercom or music in my ear, or CB squarking along. Now I just hear that fabulous 103 rumble along!!!
