Gooday all- I have a 98 Road King with 46000klm on it- It still has the original MM Fuel Injection. The bike ran perfectly when I first bought it but the othe day he engine began to rev way to high after a few klms on the road-as well the engine warning light was on. I shut the bike down and restarted and the problem dissapeared. Again today it happened. I checked plugs and oil-all good-so I removed the air cleaner and cleaned and lubed the throttle assembly and sensor. The high reving stopped but the warning light came on and off for no reason. I dont have a owners manual so I dont know what this means.

Any advice would be appreciated-         Dan Bateman

Thanks for that info-Im tipping the fault may be in the engine heat sensor in the front cylinder head-it has been replaced before on this bike. Although the wire is still connected-the sensor feels loose. I cant tell until I remove the tank. I rode the bike on the weekend with the idle speed solenoid unplugged-ran like an old mole with the engine warning light on most of the time

Hey hogbagger interesting info---am I right in thinking that when the code flashes for example like yours did on 12 code that the barometric pressure sensor is faulty

PROBLEM SOLVED !! I think Ive fixed the problem-it appears the heat sensor in the front cylinder had vibrated itself loose. Whilst difficult to see, it looks like it screws into a rubber surrounded sleeve in the front pot. I took the sensor out and cleaned it and re-installed as snug as I could get it(difficult to do without removing the tank). I took the bike for a run and no high revs or warning lights. It was revving a tad high on idle so I backed off the throttle return stop screw located behind the air cleaner plate. Then went for another 30klm run and all good !!! Thanks for your help guys and thanks to Scott at Tassie Choppers who gave me heaps of free advice.
    Cheers--Dan

PROBLEM NOT SOLVED !!!!! Bugger me my fix lasted 3 days-lifted the tank to tighten the heat sensor and it broke off in my hand. The thing had slowly been destroying itself over the last few weeks. My guess is that it is a poor component and cannot handle the vibration of the Harley. I ordered a replacement sensor, came in harley packaging but made in MEXICO. Ive given the bike to Titan Trike & Bike in Hobart, they told me it is a common problem of the early EFI bikes and know of one owner who carries a spare sensor! Anyway the new sensor is fitted-requird the removal of the tank and front rocker (to remove the broken off thread). I havent picked the bike up, but will keep you posted.

The new sensor has been fitted and bike runs well. If it happens again I will fit a carburetter !
