Services and warranty

Can anyone tell me how being late for a service would affect my warranty?

16k service due soon (less than 1k away) but due to the fact that the closest dealer (that I would trust to do it) is a good 5 hour ride away, it won't be till early March that I'm down that way. I expect to be a couple of thousand over by then.

Burto - I am in a similar sitch to you mate. Except I don't want to take my fatty back to the dealer I bought it from. They have no clue, and the next nearest one is 3 hours away! :( I am buggered if I know what I am going to do.

Does it have to be serviced by an HD dealer, or can I use any registered bike mechanic?

Yeah mate, I'm wonderin whether to just do it myself and bugger the warranty. Figure if anything goes wrong with it after late service, then they can claim that because service was late, no cover!

Warranty should not be affected if using a mechanic who can sign off your book. You know if you check with your MoCo dealer - what the response will be..............

Warranty is warranty;  new car or new bike.

As long as the service is done within reasonabled time of tne required klms there should be no problem.

Reasonable klm would have to be within 2000ks of the service date.  Of course unless it is the 1st service at 800 klm.

Burto, your warranty should be 100% covered even with engine mods.  However, if your engine mods are directly linked to the problem then HD might, and only might, object to the warranty.

I agree with Steamer - if a authorised bike mechanic does the service then it is covered.

If you decide to keep your warranty - phone that Mechanic that You, Scott and I went to once - tell him your coming and that your klms will be a little bit over - he will do the right thing in the book when he stamps it

Check the govt consumer website. A lot of warranty myths being bandied about here. You dont loose your warranty ever and they cannot void it regardless of what you do. Of course if they can prove an aftermarket part caused the problem they are not liable for the repairs but they cant void warranty ever and certainly cant refuse warranty just because you fitted aftermarket parts. Same with the service. If they can show the engine failed because you or your certified mechanic or the man on the moon did the service then they are not liable but if it has nothing to do with the service then they are liable under australian law. BTW did you know that even if they say its a 12 month warranty they are still liable after that if the part can be shown to have failed due to a manufacturing fault <img src=" align="absMiddle" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif" />

I had my second service done by a non-dealer, he stamped the book. Only thing is, he replaced a few parts which I had to pay for. Only a dealer can replace parts and claim warranty.
