G'day Dodgy,
Looks pretty original, anything that has the original Ham Can air cleaner would have to be, it was one of the first things that got changed. Mainly due to leg clearance and the fact they were bloody ugly. 1 owner bike from that era with only 82 thousand on the clock and looking as it does has certainly not been used much. Then again, the speedo might have gone over once, but I think it's unlikely due to condition on the photos.
At the time all sort of parts were being cleared out by H-D. Some 4 speed frames were left over and so were some Shovel engines.. They just used it all up to make the most popular model selling at the time . All this business of "very Rare", "collectors Item" etc, is sell hype. It's probably worth around 13 to14 K, and you would have to have a close inspection with someone who knows Shovels to be safe. Kicker not working? Can be anything from kicker gear to a whole tranny rebuild. As for the motor, by this stage they were the best they could be, but modifying the Shovel to meet EPA noise and pollution regs was no longer possible, and so Harley had started Evo development a few years back.
As with any Shovel it requires TLC to keep it running sweet.
As long as I could have a hands on look and had the dosh I would have a go ( I'd start at 12,400 and walk away at 14. This is if it passed muster.) He's got a reserve set and his Buy it Now price is well over what I think it's worth.
As always Caveat Emptor (Buyer beware).
Cheers,
Cris
