Lacing Wheels

Finally i have a 19" rim, spokes and tyre coming that I want to put onto my FXSTC....I am going to use the original hub and was wondering if there is a special skill required to lace it up or if I should take it to someone and get it done...I don't mind paying someone to do the job but I prefer to try and do things to my bike myself so I can get a good feel for it and know my way around it,if that makes sense...Having said that I also want it to be safe and not fly to pieces as I'm heading up the road...

    Cheers...Sparra

If you have time on your hands have a go yourself but it will need to go to a shop for final alignment unless you also have time to make a jig up

Usually cost around $200 to build and true a wheel, maybe a bit less.
I've played with spoked wheels before (dirt bikes) , and it's tricky to get them perfect, but if you have the time, give it a go.
As Dave said, you really need to make up some sort of stand, and preferably use a dial guage for alignment, although you may be able
to do it when you have it mounted in your bike.
A good spoke wrench is handy, and better if it has a torque setting. Use anti seize on the nipples.
I've got quite a few good "how to" articles somewhere if your intersted.

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply's...After looking at a few articles on the net I thnk I will just take out to my indy and get him to do it(he tells me he can)...By the time it takes me to muck about with it I will be better off to do a days work and pay someone else to do it...You all know us self-employed Plumbers make a squllion....nnnnnnoooooooootttttttttttttttttttttttt....I am also thinking of the safety factor as I often have my daughter on the back...

Just answered your own question saying your daughter rides pillion.

If it were me I'd hang around and watch him do it to.
