Me and a mate are heading off at the end of March to do a lap. About 7 weeks all up, no hurry this time. (22 days last time a bit quik.) Heading to Darwin first then down and across to Qld. if the roads are open by then, down the east coast to southern NSW then I'll head west, he'll go south to dreary Melbourne. I hope to catch up with a few Vietnam Vets along the way plus any or all of the Forum members. If you would like to ride out to meet up along the route that would be great, I'll stay in touch with the Forum posting ETA on certain destinations etc. Stay upright, see ya on the road hopefully.  PK/ WA.

come on fellas, 3 weeks today and were off. Need the best road from Mt Isa to Cairns and someone must know that nec of the woods. I'm thinking thru to Charters Towers?. Also could u list expected milage and overnighters, to stay in. Also some company down the east coast would be good. My map at this stage reads Cairns, T/ville,Rocky, sunshine coast, Brisbane, tweed Heads,Port Mcquarrie, Dubbo, Mildura,Adelaide, then express the paddock. Any suggested changes greatly appreciated thanks. PK in the Shed.

G'day PK, I only just spotted this thread.
I did anti clockwise last year doin the caravan thing with the wife & kiddies - Barkley tablelands are as boring as batshit - straight, flat, but there's no getting away from it.
The road from Mt Isa to Normanton is pretty bloody ordinary mate. Less than single lane and quad trailer mine trucks that will not move an inch for you. Go straight through to charters towers then up if you have the time. The rest I found alright. Atherton tablelands by bike? heaven....a bit further up the pub at cape tribulation is well worth calling into for a beer.
Find the YHA's or backpackers for cheap accomodation or kick your swag out where the old farts in caravans are - you would be surprised how friendly and hospitable they are. And generally like a drink or 20 on sundown. Met up with Dave who used to own the grunt shop doing the same thing - plenty of bike friendly people out there...
Southern Q'land / Northen NSW on a bike? bloody nirvarna.....
The only contact I had for you is leaving 3 days after you going along the bottom - going to rebuild his shack in cardwell - so you'll probably beat him over there.
Hope that little bit of info helps, sorry it wasn't more.
Have a great trip cob, stay safe and post pics!

Thanks for the info mate, I will take your advice and go thru to charters towers. Turn left there and go up via the Lynd Junction, Minnamooka to

Ravenshoe. Is that the best route to Port Douglas? then to Cairns and back down thwe coast to Tville etc. yes?

What a cluster fuck. Got to Broome last week and road to Kununarra closed indefinately. Left bikes up there and flew home on the weekend. Back in 2 weeks hopefully they have done some repairs by then and we can continue on. If anyone has a contact from Broome to Kununarra on a truck  maybe we could pay them to transport the 900 or so k's to get thru . Help appreciated people.
