Had this posted elsewhere but will try here.
if I replace the standard Dunlop rear tyre from 06 FXDLI with a metz can I upgrade from a 160 to say a 170 or 180 without any hassels to fill the guard out a bit. I understand the metz's are a bit skinnier than standard (correct me if i'm wrong), dont want to loose the wide look. Would I need spacers etc or is it just fit her up and ride. I'm not sure what you get in a wide tyre kit from the stealer, is it just the tyre ?
while ya'z are on the subject...
anyone know how much bigger you can go before you have to change things like the swing arm?
like on my 99 glide ive got a 140 at the moment,
if i change the guard and wheel can i get it to 200 like the new ones????
so anythin bigger than 160 you'd need a new swing arm set up???
is that that you mean??
Dice,
Just got both my front and rear hubs re laced with S/S spokes and Excel chromed rims, stayed with the normal size for the front but the rear rim only comes in 3.50 X 16. The standard size for the rear is 3.00 X 16 so now with the wider rim it has made the standard tyre size increase in width, had a 140 Mertz on the rear before and I had about 7mm clearance between the belt and tyre. Now with the wider rim and a 130/90 Conti tyre fitted there is only about 2 mm between the tyre and belt and the tyre now really fills out the guard. Have done about 1000k and have had no problems with the tyre rubbing anything, only contact is when wheeling the bike back wards and that is only just on one spot on the tyre.
