TWO motorcyclists are dead and five people were injured in three separate crashes on SA's roads.

In the first fatal accident, a motorbike and a truck crashed on the down track of the Heysen Tunnels about 3.45pm.

Two lanes on the down track of the South Eastern Freeway are closed and long delays are expected.

In the second fatal crash, a motorcycle and a car collided on Haines Rd, Banksia Park.

A family in a Toyota Hilux was backing out of a driveway when the motorcycle crashed into the rear passenger seat at high speed. A young boy has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition while his father is in a serious condition.

Police are advising motorists to avoid Haines Rd, with southbound traffic being diverted down Coulls Rd.

The SA road toll is now three, compared to two at the same time last year.

The crash happened on the Sturt Highway, about 10km east of Waikerie, just after 4pm.

Ambulance crews were at the scene shortly after and all three people are being taken to Waikerie Hospital with suspected fractures.

The 4WD looks like it has been moved of the road so to confuse the investagators.

RIP and I feel sorry for the poor family members left behind whom will suffer the rest of their lives. Very sad!

Also, I have just ordered my bike and this makes me wonder if I should be getting back on a road bike after 20 years without one.

Also in the first photo, note the 'No U-Turn' sign and then the damage to the side of the 4WD. Bit hard to tell from just this photo, but what's the chances the 4WD did a u-turn in front of the bike.

    Be careful out there everyone.

The young fella killed in the tunnel was 25yrs old. My brother in law was with the group. They had just done 2500k on a run through Vic and were on there way home, The kid killed was at the back of the group coming through the Heyson Tunnel when he pulled out to the left straight into the back of the truck doing 5kph. Worse thing was his future father in law was in the group as well. All that way and didn't put a foot wrong until a momentary lapse of concentration cost him his life. What a waste

I have just become a member of your forum, and in cruising the site have come across this article about the accident in the tunnels.

I am the Father In-law of the lad (Adam) that was killed in the accident...It was my first trip away with the S.O.O.K.S club and Adam's second ride as a SOOK.

We were gone for a Week riding through SA/VIC and along the Great Ocean road....we were nearly home and Adam had not put a foot wrong all week.

It was the hardest thing I have ever had too do and that was to ring my Daughter. A bit over two years has gone and we still struggle some days coming to terms with the accident and don't understand why trucks arn't made to have there parkers on when in tunnels but anyway.

I would like to thank everyone for all there kind wishes and hope to catch up oneday for a ride if ya ever heading to Broken hill.

    thanks
    Peter

Hey Gator, deepest sympathies go out to you and your family, and the families of your son in law who was tragically taken from you all. P.S thank you for showing us around Broken Hill & Silverton this weekend. Hopefully if we ever get back up there again, we'd meet again. Regards Ashley.
