g,day all ..got myself a stock Street Bob a couple of months ago and I hate that it sounds like a  beefed up lawnmower..looking to get slip ons ..looking for a nice rumble sound, but I dont want the blue mans attention. question is....."what would be the best brand"....I was looking at SE, but after reading some of the forums posted, maybe its not the best way to go..I dont wanna spend 500+ on something Im not gonna like....HELP!!!!!...

My HD dealer stuck on Rush Performance pipes when I first bought mine. They are slipons and I like the sound. Definitely not blue light grabbers, but louder than stock.

Have the SE mufflers on mine & initially wasn't happy with the note but after doing a couple of thousand km's they seem to sound a lot better than when new & under throttle I think it has a good note. There is a bloke on a new Wide Glide that rides past my place with a set of Rush mufflers & it is definitely louder than mine but then again I haven't heard him taking it easy yet.

Only thing I don't like is the black end caps on chrome & can't get a set of chrome caps.

I've got the SE II slip ons, 32,000 K's, nice note - not too loud but a fair noise when you kick it in the guts, I also get a crackle when i back off - like my Jap bikes did, unexpected but sounds nice. My dyna is the 88 cube.

I got a price on the SE III's the other day from peter stevens - $280, a lot cheaper than I thought cause I was looking at changing over to some V&H's, they are just shy of $800 and was thinking about selling mine to fund the change, not anymore..

thanks for the feedback people, I just got back from a run today and funny enough, there was a softail with SE and another softail with V&H riding with us...I sat behind both bikes to see the difference and noticed the V&H were much louder than the SE..The VH had a nice sound ,but it was a bit too loud for my taking....I asked the bloke who had the SE pipes what he thought and he said exactly what Aussie XB12SS said, that he wasnt happy at first but after a few thousand kms the tone got better and hes glad he got them......so I think I might be looking at SE and see how it turns out for me......anyone know where I can get a good deal on them?

Hi robcoy1 .. don't know if it has been mentioned to you.. If your allowing more exhaust flow, you may want to consider, a higher flow air filter as well..... there is often more to just changing exhaust .. don't forget this will change your state of tune.... and may make your bike run leaner, hoter, you may need to consider this... check out the rest of the forum regarding serts, thundermax EFI tuners. More expense ... but best to be aware ...

i would recomend the S&S slip ons also, great quality, cheaper, and cops left me alone.
i did 15,000 klms with those on a dyna and they had a good note, bit louder than screaming pigeon too.

if u really wanna save money tho then stop being a wus just get on the net and order from USA.
E.g. my last slipons for fatbob were $276.00 landed for 3 or 4" cycle shacks, sounded awesome.

Robcoy1, I just advertised a set of SE mufflers, see parts and accessories forum. If you are interested you can hear them on the bike, I live in Nowra. Just give me a call. Dave 0417992390

I have 08 fxdc. Got a good price on second hand VH straightshot slipons. The sound is loud but I like. When on road seems to fall behind you. I also found bike seems to shake more. Must be the rumble. Had to add power commander and hve it dynoed. So be safe and allow this expense. I may change to S+S later as could do cams too. Look at s=s quiter than vh but not as quiet as se. Just fitted some Freedom Signature Series slip ons and reckon the sound is spot on for what i'm after.

They are quiet enough when rumbling past a cop but loud enough when you want them to be.
