I am running 6 inch on my bike with Westerns. 07 Heritage As far as being closer maybe an inch or so. You will sit up a lot straighter but that depends on how you set your bars... Cables will be ok, are your bars internally wired? If so you will have to muck around under the tank to get the extra 2 inches of wiring. Just made it on mine, so you shouldn't have to many issues..

I'm thinking about the 6" risers as well-

Any dramas with the hydraulic line for the front brake?

I'm having 4" risers fitted on Friday. My bars are similar to wide beach bars and I like them a lot but the Hardpan seat on the CVO Fatboy is well named so I've just tried an Airhawk and in the hour I rode with it it was fantastic. It doesn't raise me much off the seat at all but it's just enough that for the first time I feel I'm slouching a bit and getting some pain across the shoulders. I went for straight risers because I figured that with risers the rake of the front forks would bring the bar back just a bit anyway. Mon, are you a real shorty? I'm about 5 10 and the current set up has been pretty good for me.
