Not running straight.

    Hi all.

My 09 FXDC has a little problem. if i let the handlebars go it leans to the left and travels that way. If I move over to the right of the seat it stays upright and travels straight ,but I'm way over the right of the bike. This happens at any speed, there is no vibration in the Handlebars or shimmie at all. Have check both wheels for round and they are good.

Have checked tyre pressures, made sure rear wheel is aligned,no engine mounts broken (thanks for all the info on here)!

My next thing is to check and see if tripple trees are not twisted even though the tyre is wearing evenly.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what I need to check?

Its not to bad but more annoying more like irritating.

    Thanks all

check front end alignment... could also be engine alignment, fork oil levels etc.. A number of us have had similar problems and unlikely to be road camber. As I have upgraded bike including progressives in forks it has improved but still has a slight lean to the left but not so annoying. Will look at the problem again when I am next back in Oz.

I can asure you its not the camber of the road as I have tried this a number of times on many roads. Hands are just there to stop people from falling off thats why they put handlebars on bikes.Ha ha ha.......

Now more serious, thanks for the comments and will look at those places and when i find what it is thats not right I'll let you know.

It did travell straight and true after it was service the first time then it went back to the way it is and was before the service. If I can not resolve the problem I'll tell the dealer about it and get it looked at hen the next service is done.

    Thanks ya all

I had exactly the same problem, but found that if I "dress to the right" it was fine! Must be a weight distribution thing.

Also check your rubber mounts are not twisted I know if i tweak mine I can twist them out of alignment (thats with the bolts cranked up hard, and i have the heavy duty mounts as well) if you bars are out you may get some tracking issues as well,

Are both your rear shocks on the same setting?

Also what bars do you have apes, drag, etc?

Hey Stumpy you should google "glide pro" and have a look at his do it yourself wheel/engine alignment--he carries it out on his tourer but the basics are the same--cheers Grim

Skin you hit the nail on the head digger, The extra width of the primary also grabs the wind low down which will always steer you left.. hope this helps...

I have always just put it down to one ball being bigger than the other so my bike leans to the heavy side!

Nah serious now if the wheel aliment is true it could be a balance issue with how you sit on the bike.

Hope you sort it out mate.

    Well the saga continues.

Have now checked, measured, fiddled with,(not with myself as yet)checked tightness of and everything else and still verse left.

Maybe it is a balance problem!!!!     I do suffer from vertigo.   Not the type where your afraid of heights but more like real bad sea sickness from time to time. If anyone when to winter rally at Neriga in 09 that was me that took up both lanes on the Hume going down there. Crazy ride I can tell you and on a new 09 Dyna Custom to boot.

Now to all of you and the HELP its been much apprieciate and I really would like to thank you one and all for all the information!!!!!

    Thank you all

Has anyone else ridden the bike? What did they find?

You might have to go for a ride with a trusted friend and swap bikes for a while.

I'd remove the fork leg assemblies and strip them, clean all the oil out. Measure the spring length and compare. Same? This would be a good time to change the springs, anyway. Reassemble and refill the legs with exactly the same amount of oil in each. Unequal oil volume leaves unequal air volume. Air in the fork acts as a spring and you want both to have equal springing.
