Hi all , I have a severe case here, nearly torched the fatboy yesterday!!!

I have had this fault for some three months now,

    2000 fatboy carby 24,000 kms

I get to 110 km/h and the igntion shuts down, not 100 km/h but always at 110 or higher, doesnt matter if I'm in 4th gear still does it.

I have replaced the crank and cam sensors and the bank angle sensor, cleaned and resoldered ignition switch, checked handle bar kill switch, checked all wiring plugs / earths etc,  had harley techs check for codes nill , had bettery out ok , fuse block ok, coil and leads ok.

I am at a loss....................anyone help me stay out of the hospital..............!

A bit more info when it shut's down does it lose all electrics and the bike stops dead, if so how long before it comes on line again i had to wait a bit till it cooled down and it was fine till it got hot again .If it stops and you have electrics and your dash is lit up than i would be looking at fuel.

Thanks guys, more info = when it shuts down its immediate, no loss of speedo or lights or any other electrics. as soon as I turn the ignition off and then on again away it goes for another 1/2 k and does it again. I turned the ignition 25 times in ten k's before I got to a 80 k zone and then it doesnt do it.?? Definitely not fuel, its too on / off straight away , if it was fuel then there will be splutter cough etc.
I think maybe i'll look at the circuit breaker tomorrow and bypass it and try. Maybe the voltage exceeds its capacity due to age (2000) .thanx again. I'll let you know.

HI TO ALL ....AFTER ALL THIS TIME WITHOUT MY RIDE, I FINALLY FOUNF THE PROBLEM......IN 2001 THERE WAS A RECALL ON FAULTY S-EAGLE IGNITION MODULES.
MINE MISSED OUT, PROBABLY BECAUSE THE SECOND OWNER OF MY RIDE DIDNT INFORM HARLEY OF CHANGE OF OWNER.

Or if you have trouble finding that, then google harley davidson ignition modules and scroll down to find recalls.

Feel for you mate, pisses you off thinking ya got it only to find out not,  No suggestions sorry and i know  you think its electrical  but i wouldnt discount the fuel supply, from expereince i spend hours looking at the wrong area.  As they say 90 per cent of fuel problems are electrical, maybe this electrical problem is fuel. Other than that i would be looking for the simple thing  a  occasional short or bad earth wriggle the crap out of the wiring  to try and duplicate it int the garage . You will get there:)

have you checked your ignition switch? had one recently with similar symptoms, used to cut out in a certain rev range, turned out to be a faulty ignition switch. i also came a cross a heritage a few years back with a faulty turn signal unit that used to cut the bike out on odd occasions and always at the same speed, possibly due to the self cancelling part of the turn signal unit.if it always at the same speed, no matter what gear or rev range , you would have to suspect the speedo had something to do with it. cheers . hope it helps
