Harley Assist

Had two recent experiences with them and both of them negative.

First time they send a clown with a flat back car transporter who had no idea how to load the bike and ended up bending the handlebars out of shape. Twat even had the balls to tell me he didnt like Harleys and was a Triumph man. Asked him what he had and it turned out he didnt even ride.

Second time (this week) I insisted they send someone who knew what they were doing. All was looking good as the guy asked where the bike was to be delivered, etc and turned out to be a proper bike transporter. Only problem was he still delivered it to the wrong dealer. When I hadnt heard anything a day and a half later I rang my dealer and Harley Assist and spent a bum twitching hour trying to locate the bike. Date was 23rd Dec and I was looking like being without the bike as another merry-go-round started while they tried to get someone to ship it to my dealer.

Seriously unimpressed with the standard of service for something thats supposed to be a comfort blanket and a benefit of riding a Harley. Even less impressed with the reliability of the bike, but thats on another thread and the reason im so pissed off today.

Don't bother using them if you have an accident - they won't come (neither will NRMA).

As I doubt that Harley own a breakdown service themselves, maybe you should complain about the contracters operating in the area's where your bike broke down. Man years ago I had my old evo breakdown (knocked a wire off when I was polishing) & the NRMA guy didn't have a clue about how to get it up a flat bed. It didn't mean that the whole NRMA breakdown service was crap.

I thought the idea of roadside assist was that they would actually send out a bloke who is able to fix Harleys like with the RAC,

broke down a few of years ago when i had the sporty about 3 days old just lost all power didnt want to start pissing about with a brand new bike so called roadside assist, bloke came out from Harley assist checked the battery says thats all he could do as it had power then i had to wait for a flat bed truck, turned out to be a loose plug near the battery box 2min fix, when the dealer mechanic pointed it out to me i realized i should of pissed about with the new bike and would of had it running easy, 3+ hours on the side of the road in 40 deg heat no water or shade, great fun!.

If it happens again and i cant fix it il try the RAC, have it for the cages and it covers the bike too.

Call them on Thursday when new forty eight clutch burned out. The guy was great... he knew alot about bikes and the problem with my bike.. he ride a honda fireblade... He said from what he seen he will NEVER by a harley... Honda is the most realiable bike. He also do all the assist for new car like BMW,Merc and other new bikes.

I broke down on my trip drom Qld to Vic this Christmas. RACQ transported the bike back to Qld at no cost (wifey has me in the highest level of membership). Used a specialist bike transporter and almost beat me back! Can't speak highly ebough of the RACQ service. A fee hickups with communications and getting all the details but good follow through and all was well, bike arrived safe and sound.

I had to use HD assist when my Glide had 700 k's on it. Called wife to pick me up and the flatbed and wife arrived at nearly the same time. Truckie had no idea how to strap a Harley down and would have rubbed pannier and tank paint. I got blanket from wife's car and redid all his straps and used blanket for strap protection.

He didn't like it but I would have taken it off the truck if he wouldn't have let me re-strap it.

I tried to fix it on the side B4 calling for assistance, but it was a fly by wire throttle issue that I could do nothing about.. another story for another time..

Sounds just like the clown who turned up to mine first time around.

I should state that the girls who take the calls are quite helpful. Trouble is it doesnt matter a jot if they send a chimpanzee with a wheelbarrow to tow you bike. Making me rethink membership of the NRMA (which I had until recently) although the distance restrictions they put on their callouts has to date put me off

The only reason I originally had Harley Assist was that I got a discount being a HOG member....Found it cheaper to dump the assist & go with RACV total care. Fantastic service. Broke down in Bright, (my fault..another story), they gave me a hire car to finish off the 2 days I had left on my hols, then drove it home to Warragul. They picked up bike & delivered it the Warragul, picking up the car at the same time. Didn't cost a zac...great service...very impressed.

i ground my primary cover off on left side and exhaust on right side touring tasmania.
made it to almost Thredbo on way back before completely shut down.

Harley Assist got me a tow truck from Jindabyne. Then up to Jindabyne and then another onto Canberra.
Canberra they paid for a Camry that I kept for a week and drove home in etc whilst bike got fixed at Robbos canberra.

Harley Assist = good outfit and easy to deal with IMHO. Well worth it.

Me: Hi am at the BP on the WA/SA border and there is a strange noise coming from the primary on my bike.
HA: Ok do you think you can get it to the nearest dealer?
Me: The nearest dealer is over 1000km away in any direction.
    HA: Where are you?
Me: I am at the BP at bordertown on the WA/SA border.
HA: What road is that on?
    Me: The Eyre highway.
HA: Ok well we can get a truck to take you to a dealer but we only cover the first $500 dollars.
Me: What is a 1400km tow likely to cost?
    HA: Ohhhh $2000-$2500 dollars
Me: Can I offer the $500 to a trucky to take the bike to a dealer?
HA: Ohhh no we can only pay our registered contractors.
Me: (censored)...can you please put me onto mechanic so I can discuss the problem?
HA: would you prefer to speak to Perth or Adelaide?
Me: It is 6.30AM in Perth lets go with Adelaide shall we?

    ETC

I ended up riding it with a failing inner primary bearing to HH Adelaide with Bobtail and wasting days there waiting for my bike to be fixed. The whole process took the shine off Harley Assist and warranty in general.

I don't need assistance within an hour of home as I have access to utes / trailers / mates. Where I do need assistance is more than a days ride from home in the middle of nowhere and this is exactly where HA is beyond useless.

    cheers
