Welded stand spring mount on, but battery was disconnected last week.  Was doing it before this but not as bad.  No accessories. 

have a look at the regulator? water may have damaged the unit or plug? is it charging correctly?

 For reasons unknown to me it started this morning after being left overnight with battery connected.  Was only 12 hours since last ride but will see how it pans out.

 Bought a new battery after disconnecting the main fuse when leaving it for a few days to stop in draining.  New battery arrrived flat as, couldn't even roll start it.  Would this shorten the life of the new battery and should I send it back and tell them to give me a new one?  Battery manual says it should be ready to go unless been stored for more than 3 months.

a new battery should be fully charged. phone them and get it exchanged or ask for their advice. did you get a gel / mat type of battery? could your ignition switch be playing up? you did change the start relay and system relays didnt you?

Yeah its a gel battery, swapped back to old battery and fired up straight away (as I hhad just ridden it), will put it on trickle charger overnight.
