14.6 AFR & 98 Octane Fuel

Just had bike dynotuned & tuner was saying running bike at 14.6 AFR with 98 fuel makes bike run rich. 14.6 was set for the US as they run their bikes on 89 octane. He ended up setting up my AFR's to 13.8 so now I am
    running open loop.
Anybody heard of this. What do you guys run your AFR & CLB's at & have had any issues
I got to thinking maybe dropping my CLB's (which are set at 720) so I can run in closed loop may accomodate this so it does not run as rich. Does anybody know if this will help.
Other option could be running on 91 Octane but not a big fan of.
Oh yeah done a couple of V-tune runs, first dyno run from V-Tune bike spat out 95.6 TQ & 81.5 HP. After 3.5 hours of dyno time the bike ended up with 96 TQ & 84 HP.
By the seat of your pants feel, bike felt exactly the same after the dyno run, but it did have a little bit more throttle response from a standing start.
So well done Steve Cole on providing us with a bloody awesome product

I had never heard of this, so I was just throwing this out there to see if anybody else heard of this. It was playing on me mind.

I worded this wrong in saying that 98 makes bike run rich, it was to do with being told we can't run closed loop properley with 98

It all depends, if the 98 octane is lead free then you can run closed loop without issue. I have run 100 octane without issue in the past and I know 98 would not be a bother. What it will bother it is not adjusting the timing for the higher octane.

You say at 14.6 you are running fat so it was changed to 13.6 and now it is OK ???? What !!! the bigger the number, 14.8 the leaner it makes the motor, the smaller the number the fatter it gets. Also octane doesn't do anything on AFR, the octane has a direct affect on how much timing you can run without detonation. I would have to ask the dyno operater to explain that one to me. dsv
