WTF!,, Mate you are lucky. I will like to hear the outcome of this. Shit should hit the fan in that business. Whoever the Mech was he needs to have real hard look at himself, that sort of mistake costs people their lives..

I changed my tyre out as well but not under warranty, obviously i made the safer choice they dont want people coming back and they are making sure they dont.

    Must be a wideglide thing.

Eyeball you could still come just keep the speed down a little ( maybe a cable tie) LOL

On a more serious note was this done by our favourite dealer ?

That's fukced mate. I had my Night train there for a service one time. I also got my rear wheel polished. They removed the wheel got it polished and when they put it back on they didn't do any of the caliper bolts up. They were swinging in the wind. I only noticed them after a ride to Lancelin from Morley and back when I started to clean the bike......Lucky they still worked ok somehow and I didn't have spoke rims and a bolt or two didn't get stuck up.... One of many fukc ups by them too. They are useless pricks. They don't even give a shit...I wrote a book on all the stuff ups they did over the time and sent it to HD and they didn't do a thing....

hey eyeball.... whilst you are at it make sure you also send a copy to the dealers principle over east otherwise it will just be swept under the carpet. The whole management structure in Perth is fcuked and nothing will change unless people in the east wake up to the fucking discraceful attitude of the people based in the west.

Highlighting something like this on this forum is a great way to remind people to carry out basic checks of bike before riding. Probably something we shouldn't have to do but perhaps necessary when someone else works on the bike. One has to ask about the dealer proceedures... where is the original part that was removed. Did an embarresed employee just throw the parts in the bin.

Not sure if it would get printed but something else you may want to do is to write to Heavy Duty... without mentioning the dealer send a copy of the picture to them highlighting the neccessity to carry out basic checks after having bike worked on!!!!!!

I can give you details of a HD mechanic just off Anketell Road if you want.

Im gunna play devils advocate here Fraser's in Perth are definatly making a good effort to change there bad rep. Fuck up's like this one definatly dont help and it should never have got out the workshop but Im sure they have done what they could to fix it. My advice would be dont go in with guns blazing go see the service manager and be reasonable.

     Lucky Man!!

Def bump that on to your solicitor, to draft a letter, not worth doing it yourself.

Also, another thread somewhere on here was listing that amount of crashes and deaths after leaving a HD deale,,r picking up a new bike or after a service, you know why now.

So the end result of all this.

Initially they wanted the bike up at the shop, which at the earliest, the bike wouldve been up there at midday, I emailed them asking if it could be returned same day prior to 3pm (I was keen on going on the WA Xmas ride), thought I had fark all chance of that happening.

Shortly after sending that email they rang asking if I'd mind if the mechanic swung by my place after he'd finished work.

The mechanic who worked on my front wheel came down with the parts in question and fixed it up.

In the mean time, with the greatful assistance of some gents on this forum, I have a couple of letters I could send to the relevant departments.

But now I've got to ask myself, what do I want from any responses from HD/and or the dealer in question.

Materiely, I dont want anything, an apology maybe? well Ive already had about 5 of those from the shop.

If I do send this letter, it may have a negative impact on any future relationships with said dealer (can already hear the mass's saying fuck em),

but to be honest, I dont plan on spending my hard earned there in the long term, its more of maintaining the warranty.

I think I'll send the letter out, and just go through the Bunbury guys.

Send letters, if it happens to someone else later and they are hurt the guilt will kill you. It's their fault not yours

Eyeball you have done the right thing sending those letter out. (And I expect you will get an answer back, not much of one but they have to respond to your grievances). If nothing was said about this incident then whoever was responsible for the lapse in their work would get away with it. You pay very good money and expect the best service that that money can buy. And I bet the guy who done the work was not qualified but a 1st year apprentice or shop run around. But you paid dollars for a mechanic to do the work.

In the end the dealer is ultimately responsible for what happens within their shop. If they are not ensuring that work is done to a high standard then they should not be in the business. If god forbid something had happened they would be ducking and weaving trying to make sure they were not responsible.

It leaves a sick feeling in your gut in then end, when we spend shit loads of money on these bikes we are advised to take it to a QUALIFIED Harley Mechanic for the servicing to ensure that things are done correctly. And they wonder why I do all my own work.!

Here's my experience how things should be done....I had a new tyre fitted & steering bearing looked at and an oil change at Richardson's in Tasmania a couple of weeks ago...

When the job was done the service manager took me to my bike, asked me to look over it and whilst doing so he checked the rear axle nut, head bearing area (had that reset) and oil filter and drain plug ( checked oil level) all in my presence...I signed of on it no probs....he, the manager noted that there was some grease left near the head stock, he said that the mechanic and cleaner will be talked to....Last week, on the ferry homeward bound I got a call from Richardsons asking if every things OK and wishing me a safe and happy trip...Now that's what I call service.....

All the mainland dealers need to go there and learn a few things...

Hey ..... i'm with Outlaw01 on this one ...... your dealer did way more than most would, don't knock them too hard for trying to help you out.

Tear your ass of your couch, enjoy your bike and get your knees in the breeze.

I just found this thread and can only say HOLY SHIT!!

I would have taken my 8 year old daughter to the dealer and asked them to explain to her how they put her daddy's life at risk. FUCK!!!

I am in a shit fight now with my dealer and HD because my brand new fatty does not ride straight, and HD Aus are being a bit coy about it. It leaves you scratching your head when you ask the guy at HD Australia "Should my brand new Harley ride straight when I let go of the bars?" and he answers "Well, let's not jump to that conclusion" WTF!!!
