Exhaust and Performance Options - XR1200X

     Hi everyone,

I know this subject would have been done heaps of times but please indulge a newbie to the world of Harley Davidson.  I have ridden bikes for over 30years and just this last weekend I picked up my brand new XR1200X Sportster.  I love to accessorise things so will very quickly want to get some additional noise and performance out of the bike.  My other ride is a Ducati S4R Monster that has the full Termignoni exhaust system, ECU and open airbox so am thinking something similar for the Sportster.

I do love the look of the standard pipes and want to stick with the matt black finish.  I have read all the articles of the D&D versus, Remus versus Vance and Hines etc. but I know there are so many other options out there.

So if the prerequisites were matt black, more horse power, street legal sound so that I could match it with some performance tuning system and open air box etc. what would people suggest.

    Thanks in advance.

Plenty of choices around. Even Termi' has a system, but not black. Not much XR traffic around here.
You know, I've never actually seen one on the road !
Give us a quick review on the bike.
Did you buy it to slow down a bit after the S4R ??

    Hi,

I bought the XR1200X just because I really love the look of the Sportster XR. Fundamentally different bike to ride when compared to Ducati. It is bigger, much heavier, with 60HP less than the duke. But it is so cool looking.

It is a lot easier to ride in traffic and so smooth and with buckets of torque. I not only love the look but now I love the way it rides. It is a treat to ride in the tight parts of the Adelaide hills and it just loves fast sweeping turns.

I would like a little more instant power and some deeper throatier sound.

    Love the XR.

Interesting you find it easier to ride and smooth in traffic than the Duc'.
I was looking at buying an XR after the XB12 Buell (written off !), that was before the XR-X was out.
The Buell was very grumpy and rough in stop-start traffic.
Looks like the XR-X has at least improved the suspension over the XR.
To say it handles in the tight stuff says something coming from an S4R rider !
With some pipes/air filter mods and a tune, you will get the response you want.

    Cheers

The S4R is quite grumpy in stop start traffic and the XR is an absolute joy. I have changed the front sprocket on the S4R and it is a little nicer but the XR is my preferred ride around town. I suspect the dirt bike style handle bars on the XR makes me feel at home as I started riding dirt bikes when I was 8 and that is a long time ago. The XR could just do with a little more power thou and some weight loss.....

I do love both the bikes

     Hi,

Well I think i have decided to get a Vance and Hines 2-1-2 Widow system for the XR1200X.  I was just wondering if anyone on the forum has had experience with importing complete exhausts from the US?

Bret, I brought in two full systems last year, and have another on the way.
Postage varies, but is around $170-$200. Double check postage cost before ordering though, as some are a lot higher.
And keep it under $1k Aud including post.

I have been quoted somewhere between $175 and $225 depending on the postage or courier they use.  I am thinking about bring a Vance and Hines 2-1-2 Widow full unit in and have been quoted $574 for the system so with the postage it would still be below the threshold.  With the Dollar at parity or better it is a lot cheaper than the $1100 quoted in Australia.

I've just moved to Adelaide with my XR1200X and was looking at the V&H system too. Did you get one and if so are you happy with it?

    Hi,

I just fitted a Torque Hammer pipe to my XR1200X, sounds really good and pulls much better. Whole system weighs just over 4kg. Pretty easy to fit and came with all fittings. Used a TTS  tuner and a tune supplied by the Torque Hammer guys (Dris) again quite simple. Worth a look if you're looking for a pipe.

Must admit I love the look of them shame there not coming to the land of OZ next year due to poor sales. They are such and advanced harley as far as the suspension goes. there are some great vids on you tube--cheers Grim
