Shovel head import compliance

     Hi All,

I recently purchased an 82 shovelhead that has been customised. The only original items are the motor & frame. The exhaust is not stock and I am told the noise needs to be less than 100 decibels at 2500 rpm for a bike of this vintage. Can anyone help me with some advice with this, and if it is possible to install baffles inside the pipes to reduce the noise level and what other items I need to take care of before taking it to the VASS engineer.

Any help is appreciated and I am located in Victoria

    Dave,

I will try the baffle inserts and see how I go with that first. The engineer said the high to low beam needs to dip to the left, If I was to rotate the headlight insert 180 degrees which should allow it to dip to the left, would this be acceptable or do I still need to replace the headlight which is 5 3/4" diameter.

    Thanks for the help

Thanks Dave, I appreciate the advice and the offer for the pipes. I am going to try the internal baffle set up first and go from there but I may take you up on the offer if unsuccessful

    Hi Dave,

I would like to take you up on your offer to borrow your stock pipes for a 1982 shovelhead. I have just been informed by my engineer that my current drag pipes with baffles will not met the ADR 28 specification. If at all possible could you let me know if the offer is still good

    Thanks again

Hi Redbluff - i'm looking to import a shovel and i'd appreciate any advice regarding import - i was thinking that i need to get an original bike with matching numbers but if thats not essential then i might go for a pan head in a shovel frame - appreciate any thoughts - cheers, numbers
