New to this, hope I am asking the right questuions. After forking out for a new Harley (my first), not a lot of dollars left.  Whats the best way of getting a decent sound at a reasonable cost? I am happy enough with the performance. Have asked a couple of people, but it gets very confusing. Differing advise about remapping, slipons will do, 2K for a decent system with remapping, bypass O2 sensors etc. Where do I get good advise/service?Live in country vic.

Mate I just threw on a set of SE slip ons...For me they r perfect. Not gunna give me a headache on the longer rides yet a great deep sound. Not too costly and didnt need to change anything else to work with it...They look sharp too.
Thats just my opinion, but thats what its all about...

Thanks Steve an Scotty. I have been riing the bike for about 6 months now and am happy as a pig in ..... I nearly ordered it with new pipes, but decided to ride it stock until I found out a few things. I am a bit wary of advice from dealers, as I think they sometimes sell you what they think you should have, or what they get the best markup on. The only honest advice you get is from someone who has done mods to their own bike. I will check the net for Steve's mods .

No intentions of selling. As far as mods go, not a lot till its out of warranty.

I ride 2 up a lot, so if its too loud the boss might go crook. Then again, if it was load enough I wouldnt be able to hear the protests. Seriously though, it amazing how many people say it doesnt sound like a Harley. The stock system is pretty quiet and some noise would be good. I believe in be heard be safe, but dont want to attract to much attention from Mr Plod.

Thanks for the views and advice so far. As a "newby" I like to here comments and opinions. As someone who doesnt mind getting a bit dirty, but is not a mechanical whizz kid, how for should you go before getting professional assistance? Is it worth buying the gear and take it to someone to fit? My problem is that I dont have anyone locally who is a recognised HD mechanic. Nearest HD dealer is about 100 - 120 km away. Dont want to stuff my warranty, so do I do what Scotty says and sit and wait awhile, or do I go with a dealer supply and fit?

Well, why not be different? Leave it stock!

From what I can determine by simple observation, I'm one of only three HD riders in Sydney with the stock pipes on, and when I saw the other two I think they were on their way to buy new SE's...

Thanks for the advice guys (and any girls), I will take it all on board. Sounds like I need to sit, think and research a bit more. I will scope out the suggestions made and hopefully eventually make the right decision ( I hope)
