    Hi there,

Just a quick one...I am putting raked triple trees (5 degree) on a FXST softail.

My question is do I need to change ride height of front forks up or down??

    Any other things to consider?

    thanks heaps !!

Thanks guys, I checked the link, a little confusing but think i get the jist.
However, am I okay if i simply change the stock triple trees for the 5 degree raked ones i bought & leave the forks as is???
    Thanks again.

change the rake, the trail is effected ,handling is comprimised .the stock rake and trails are mathmatical equations to give the best handling and steering ,change at your own risk .ive learnt from expeirance

Thank you all again for replies.

Surely though- only 5 degrees of rake added to stock will not noticeably & negatively affect handling.

Some of those sweet looking customs out there have alot more rake, admittedly they are probably not as good handling, but is a mere 5 degrees really going to be noticed when riding.????

I know it will look way better!!

Thanks Crusty - I was thinking of using something "bolt on" like these....

I will probably change out the stock forks at some point, but as they are brand new, and not a mark on them, the stock ones will do for now.

Thanks, but given I dont plan to be doing any drag racing on an otherwise 'stock' softail, I cruise around Northern Beaches mainly, so lucky to get over 80 km/h most trips.

I am just looking to customise & improve the look a little as I think a little more rake looks the business.

My only reason for putting it out there for a members opinion /response was to ask if a mere 5 degrees will make any significant difference to handling at normal everyday rinig speeds around town.

So I guess Im still looking for an answer????? please

A mere 5 degrees as you so technically put it will change the whole front end
    handling, braking, geometry.
Raked and adjustable trees are usually used on a modified frame to bring the
rake and trail back into alignment after stretching / raking is performed...

I went 3 degrees in the trees on my 99 wideglide - was talked out of 5 degrees by the guy who sold em to me , who also puts em on bikes - i also went 2 inch over in the forks - looks kool , i reckon it still handles as good if not better than standard - however if was concerned about handling i woulnt have bought a harley now would i ????

i can hear all the skirtster riders out there now blowing up , each to there own ay...........hahahahaha

    Hi Guys,

Just read a very interesting thread titled "Raked Triple Trees" on this whole "raked trees / over forks" issue in the Softail Section of this HD Forums.

Well worth a read and may enlighten you also.

    Cheers

    Hi there Bandit

I recently went an extra 4 degree rake on my 09 Fatty. I used Hawg Halters 4Deg trees made for Fatty's and Heritage. They have 2 inch over spacers in the trees plus my already 2 inch over fork tubes now gives me 4 out and 4 over. My first raked run was up the Putty road twisties, took a little to get used to as you have to alter your approach to corners. Its all good now, Im used to it and it handles great. One thing to keep in  mind is as you rake, your handle bar grips get closer to you and depending on what type of bars can slap your tank in full lock or just reduce your reach. I had new Burliegh rollers made, Dave from Burliegh Bars made the bars to suit the rake.

    Hers a pic

    Cheers Clem

No wobbles and handles real well. Just takes a ride or two to get used to then all good. It actually feels stable at high speed.

    Lads,

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I have the go ahead from the minister for finance to go ahead and do my front end.

I am looking at the hawg halters 4 degree but I want to swap out the wheel with a thinner mag wheel. Someone has mentioned 21 inch but am open to suggestions.

The only thing with the hawg kit is it uses my stock forks which are not chrome. So if there is a better kit, I am open to that too.

    Thanks lads.
    Mongrel.
