    Hey Roadie,
Awesome bike, absolutely love old shovels.
How original is it? How many kms? What about the $$$$ (if you don't mind me asking)
I have recently bought a 52 Pan, so I know these things aren't cheap..

    Cheers

Ta guys, I'll post a few more pics in a day or two of a few changes. Don't know any history just yet but with dragway 4 piston brakes its been in oz a while [ weren't too many FLs sold in oz in the 70's ]. The front wheel is FL but the back wheel is superglide. I picked it up for $10k. To good to say no too at that price.

You got a bargain for 10k, looks like a 58-64 frame, i`ll look forward to more pics.

10 K ?????, you lucky bastard. Wish I could have found something like that when I was looking for one.

Had to settle for an Evo, but I have baptised her as a born again Shovel.

Sorry Houli,  don't mean to be a smartass but I think she's a 73 frame, got lecky start and the first year for the square swingarm was 73.

Drop saddles couldn't  fit  the starter so they added 2" to the frame.

    Cheers,

    cris

No worries Don i stand corrected, the top shock mount looks way too high and the frame above the battery should straighten out  and be the same height as the top shock mount, maybe its the angle of the photo, any way i`ll agree for 10k its a beaut.

The frame doesn't seem to have a number so I was thinking it must be pre '70, but that was guessing. It feels small and low compared to my Roadking. More photos tomorrow when I put a few bits back on it again.

After a few changes. White walls gone. These tyres were on my original roadking wheels down the back of the shed. For now the front guard off as it was to much colour for me, but I think painting the front guard black isn't going to look right. Lowering it too before it goes back on. Shorter hagon back shocks, drag bars with tan grips and headlight nacelle off. I had this small headlight in the garage but think a 7" would look better. I'll try to find a used one to keep the old look to the bike.

I give up for today. It just won't let me add photos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll go back to working on bikes. at least they make sense.

Very nice and a real steal mate. FYI, I loved the whitewalls, thought it suited it very nicely

roadie, that’s a nice looking bike. I’ve always liked that type of multi-spoke wheel like the front one. I agree with houli in that the frame looks like 58–64, at least at the top rear because it does indeed appear different in that area to the 1965 or later type.

You mentioned the frame doesn’t seem to have a number and that would initially indicate pre-70 although some late-69 models had an unstamped VIN boss. Is there anything stamped on the left side of the steering head? Beginning with 1962 models, H-D stamped additional original component identifying numbers on the left side of the Big Twin frame steering head but they are small and may be hard to spot. If they are there they may consist of one capital letter followed by either three or four numbers.

You could also check the numbers on the lower rear castings and see what the suffixes are. On the right-hand side the suffix may be either 58 or 73 and on the left-hand side it could be 58, 65 or 73.     Eric

I think its had that many layers of paint it would need to be stripped to see properly. On the steering head I can't see anything but on the frame section below the swingarm pivot on both sides I reckon there are numbers, I think? Finally got rego sorted out so have been out riding today. Got a few niggles to be sorted but all good fun.

Glad to hear you got the rego sorted out. And happy new year.

At below left is the 1958-64 style upper casting (drop saddle) with number 47645-58 and at below right is one of the 1965 or later styles (usually has casting number 47645-65 and sometimes a letter at the end):

If yours is a 58-64 frame the lower casting numbers near the swingarm may be 47653-58 on the left side and 47651-58 on the right-hand side.

If it's a 73 or later frame the lower left casting number may be 47654-73 and the lower right-hand casting number may be 47652-73. However, some very early-73s had 47654 65 on the lower left casting and 47651-58 on the lower right-hand casting.     Eric

Thanks for the info. I'll check tomorrow in the light and see if I can make something out. Aside from a leaking oil pump I'm amazed how oil tight the motor is. When it gets hot the clutch starts dragging which I've read I can fix with adjusting balance on the three springs on the clutch pressure plate. The gearing seems tall as I'm probably up to 30ks in 1st gear and its only just in 3rd at 60ks. So far I haven't found what it wants to start from cold but when its been run its 1st kick. Anyway so far so good. Lovin it.

The frame is the dropped style and I can read the 58 prefix on the right. I wonder how much of the rest of the bike is a bitsa. I'm still trying to get info on the history of the bike.

Finally managed to get the photos to move across, I didn't do anything different it just cooperated.
