Raked Triple Trees - need raked cups aswell ?

I had a little bump on my 07 Softail recently, and have kinked my forks just the littlest bit.

Well after looking at them over the last few weeks and it annoying me I have ordered  a  5degree raked triple tree kit and 2'' over forks from Rollies.

Re-Using my fork sliders as no damage done to them and no need to spend big bucks on ones that will do same job, will get the factory ones polished up.

Id like to hear from people that have raked there bike in the triple tree,

Hows the handling ? ( low speed and high )

    Trail work out ok ?

(My bike is lowered 2'' in the rear )

I have read alot of stuff about this, seems very mixed opinions. Alot of negative.

Alot have suggested raked cups to counter balance the trail issues that I will encounter ???

    Cheers,

    Chad.

    KiwiDave,

    Thanks buddy. Very informative.

I have found plenty of info just not heaps about peoples experiences with Twin Cam's and raked front ends using the cups.

It seems straight foward to do.

Should I suck it and see with the triple trees alone ?
Or wack in the cups straight up?

Im obviously concerned about the handling low and high speed, and of course pushing it out of my overly crammped garage. lol

Mate what im chasing is the kick out front, while lowering a bit, not going crazy here.
Im not keen on having the front sit up super high being a cop magnet, not my thing, iv got an ultima pro street softail aswell, thats got the silly front rake and bagged rear end, I can jump on that and go for a burn to accomplish this.

I never really planned on modding this bike too much, wanted it as reliable and rideable as possible, but as fate had it, I had an accident and need to replace the forks so why not get the slighlty lowered & raked affect while im there. At the end of the day its a stock bike. a big rake lowered stance doesnt suit, in my opinion.
    and cheaper than OEM parts.

After listening and consulting a few bike shops and experienced friends they seem to think with this rake and the 2'' over it will sit lower than the factory set up, and I can always drop the arse down a bit more I guess, if I have too.

I guess I will just bolt up the triple tree's as they are and do the measure. Not to hard to replace just the cups by the looks of it.
Looked at those calculators, they seem straight forward. Once I have it bolted up will make life a lot easier, as the bike isnt at home currently and parts dont arrive till Friday.

    Will keep updated.
    Cheers,
    Chad.

I would have thought that raking it and then adding 2" over forks would keep it around the same height?

Just doing the rake would lower it wouldn't it?

Yeah im aiming for around the same.
If its a tad lower bonus. just dont want it to sit up.

    Walka,
    That bike is a glamor.
    23in front wheel ?
Im assuming a customers bike ?
    Any feedback about handling ?

So... With all that has been said so far.... Can someone please explain the differences with using....

    Raked Trees and Stock Forks

    AND

Raked Trees with 2 inch over

I would love to know the difference here.

    Cheers

Every 3 Deg you need to Add 1" to the Leg. The Problem is that Replacment Legs or Tubes are only avalable in 2'" Lenghts. So with 3 Deg Stock Lenght is Fine . 5 Deg use +2" 7 Deg Use +4

Based on Standard Soft Tail 32 Deg Neck Frame and Standard Lenght Forks 24" Long from under the Bottom Tripple Tree to the Centre of the Axle

Ok so we seem to have established that the 2'' overs will not lower it.

Assuming in this case that the front wheel is a 23'' would that not be making the bike sit up higher in the front ?

Using stock 21'' in wheel in my case will most likely sit more level ? this is my understanding.

The only reason I have asked about the cups was to see if they were needed to combat front trail issue.

And yes I was only ever after customing the front end of my bike, as said, im replacing a damaged part.
Not looking to turn my bike to a chopper.

Just a quick update I have installed the 5' rake with 2' over forks.... turned out great, install was straight foward.
Had the shocks built by Frank Pons at BIKETEK Campbelltown, NSW.
Installed the rest myself in 5-6 hrs including rehiding the wiring for the handle bars as the new triple trees were set up different.

Now the bike rides really well, pushing it around the shed or parking is a little more difficult but not a major prob, around town and crusing is beautiful.
Highway cruising at 105-120 it gets a little wobble and vibration, take it up over 120 tho and it evens out and is beautiful even around the 160km/h mark.

I havent calculated rake and trail yet, will try do that over easter when I get home. Am thinking now maybe the raked cups might be a good idea ?

    Peoples thoughts ?

I have a solid deuce rear wheel not sure if that has anything to do with it, maybe wind pushing around a little and not escaping

Recently fitted Kuryakan fork brace from Rollies.

For the short time I have ridden it for I am very impressed by it.

Fixed the vibration / wobble and handles real sweet now.

Had fun throwing it round the winedy roads like a sports bike.
