Hi all, Can anyone help me out with this curley one?

Its a 2000 carby fatty,  after about five k's it electrically shuts down, while rolling along in top gear I turn off the ignition and back on again, backfire and away it goes for another 2-4 k's and then the same again.

Only does it at the higher speeds of 100 - 110, around town it goes all day without a problem.

Bumps in the road dont make it do it, nothing I do can make it do it, just does it on its own.

I have checked everything I can think of , I have re soldered the ignition switch terminals, dissmantled the ignition switch and cleaned...ok.  checked handlebar stop rocker...ok   all the wiring thru bars under tank etc.

I replaced the crank and cam sensors...still the same...I borrowed a ignition module...same fault,,,, got me going nuts.............please ,, any ideas??????????

So you are saying all power dies ? or is it a fuel problem ?
How old is your battery ?

Hi, thanks for the reply,Definitely not a fuel problem, complete loss of power until I off the ignition and back on again, like rebooting something.
    Battery ok not old .

    Hmmm , OK.
Three things, there is a circuit breaker in line with the battery, there is a Bank angle sensor designed to shut the bike down when it tips over, or the battery has a dodgy internal conection.
All of them could cause your fault.

MMM, interesting, where is this bank sensor located, and would the circuit breaker be here the fuses are?

Not sure where they are on a Softy'
You need to check for any logged diagnostic codes.

Hey thats really interesting, It sounds like it could be the fault because when it happens i notice that the indicators go very dull on the dash and the lights on the front dont flash,( I know of this because when it cuts out I indicate to pull over and there is no indicators, also when it happens i have tried to restart but the starter motor doesnt fully engage and goes clack clack"or simmilar. This is an area for me to investigate, thank you very much you guys."I'll let you know how I got on.

Thank you Baldy, one other question, going by the diagram, is it located underneath looking up or can I get to it behind battery,???

Well done baldy, your a legend pal. I just now pulled it to bits , found the bas and while it was running i moved it around a little and it stopped.
Before I turned on / off the ignition , I tried to start and it did exactly what it has done on the road, a poor crank and no fire, re did the ignition and away it went. This bloody sensor is just a ball in a box that contacts three terminals . On testing it I found a what appears to be indifferent resistance values. I will order a newy and compare these values, I bet they'll be different.I found that it doesnt like running without the sensor, the engine light stays on.........Thank you friend for your valued help, could I send you a liquor store gift card?

I removed the sensor and cut off the top, inside is a circuit board and along side in a vee shape groove is a barrel that rolls out to 45 degrees. I am sure that this board has a fault "as usual" I have ordered another.
The Tech at our local H.D. shop says he's never replaced one, but I am convinced this is the problem. I repost my result in a couple weeks when I get and fit the new one.

Hey Guys, my bike (2004 Fatboy) had the same problems on Xmas Eve, went out for a quick ride and it just died..thought it might have had something to do with the coil so changed my leads back to the original ones that came with the bike (previously changed them to stainless steel braided for looks) which we thought may have caused the bike to shut down..then did the diagnostic test and two faults came up on the odometer and after clearing the fault numbers, at this stage, bike seems to be running alright..we are assuming by changing the leads that we fixed the problem but because the faults were still in the system the bike was reading these faults and shutting down, now that their cleared hopefully will not have any more problems..will keep you updated..my suggestion check your bike for fault codes...

went to go for a ride today and got 5 minutes down the road and the bike died again, could not start straight away but waited 10 mins and then it started..so by clearing the codes it has not solved our problems as we thought..when doing the test now on the odometer it is telling us: pn32771-04  pn68921-01C and pn67197-04, can anybody give us any ideas...

No, the eng diag light is not flashing..so does the above part numbers that come up, do they mean that we need to replace these parts???  why are they coming up???

HELLO ALL THANX FOR THE SUGGESTIONS, BUT TODAY I HAVE FIXED THE FAULT.
I GOOGLED HARLEY IGNITION MODULES AND WOO HOO.THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2001 BECAUSE OF THE EXACT FAULT MINE DID.
A FAULT IN THE SOFTWARE OF THE IGNITION MODULE.
THE PREVIOUS OWNER DIDNT TELL HARLEY HE BOUGHT IT AND SO DIDNT RECEIVE THE RECALL NOTICE, OR MAYBE THE DEALER DIDNT PASS ON THE RECALL,GOD ONLY KNOWS.ANYWAY ALL GOOD NOW, I CAN NOW STOP TAKING VALIUM AND SLEEP PILLS.!!!!!!!
