Wrong part numbers turned up - Can I use them?

    Hi Guys,

Firstly I'm new to this forum, so G'day.

I recently picked up my new bike a Dyna Wide Glide 2010 model, which I'm very happy with.

I decided to buy some parts from a HD dealer in the US via ebay (I won't broadcast there name, as I'm trying to see if I can resolve the issue with them first), to add a bit more chrome

I ordered a Chrome Outer Pimary Cover (Part No. 60782-06), but the part turned up with the following number stamped on it 60784-06.  I also orded a Chrome Cam Cover (Part No. 25369-01B), but the part turned with Part No. 25362-01A stamped on it.

Does anyone know if I can put these parts on my bike and would it cause any problems?

I'm pretty anoyed, as I'm not keen to put odd parts on a new bike.

In the meantime I've let the dealer know to see what options they come with.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

(I also posted this same post in the 'Workshop - General' area).

I was just thinking.. the part number differences may be due to a chrome cover instead of the standard cover .... just an identifier let's hope this is the case..

The numbers cast into parts isn't allways the same as the HD part number.
You probably have the correct parts.

Did they come in factory packaging with the parts numbers on it ?

    Thanks for your reply's.

Neither part did come in packaging, so I was a bit sceptical, I was hoping they may have removed them from the factory packaging to help save in transport costs.  Some other parts I ordered did come in HD packaging.  I will let you know of the outcome.

my best guess is the the part number that is stamped into the metal is the part number for the 'un-finished' product. The item is then either polished, chromed or has a black wrinkle finish and is issued with it's own unique P/N, but is not stamped on product..... example is printed circuit board which has one part number that is often etched on the board but has a different part number once populated with components

I spoke to the dealer and they stated they break the parts down from the Chrome Engine Kit (Part 16318-07A), hence the reason why they did not come in any factory packaging.  As Ho has stated they also said the number on the part is the casting number and not the specific part number.

The dealer also stated if I have any problems with fitment to get back to them.

My next question - can I fit these parts myself without having to go back to my dealer without voiding my Warranty?

    Thanks again for your input.

it's just cover so as long as you do it yourself right , i see no problem but i'm not sure if it will void your warranty

Sorry for not getting back any earlier - I've been away from the PC lately.

Good news, I fitted the parts and there are no problems.  Thanks everyone for your input.

Hope you have a great Xmas.
