My partner and I have ten days off from December 24th to January 5th and we want to get away this year on the bike for Christmas and New Year. Any suggestions on places to go and visit that are interesting? We have been to Perth, Darwin and Cairns on the bike. So looking for new places to visit. Any suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated.

Wrong time of year to go away. Aside from the forecast for this summer it's too bloody busy on the roads. Just nick out for some short day/night rides here and there and save the big rides for during the year.

    That's my 2c worth anyway.

Well i spose it depends on how long ya wanna be away.....i reckon the most enjoyable road trips are the ones that are'nt planned, just pick a direction or area you would like to go and follow ya instincts, just take turnoffs at random if they sound interesting, that time of year i think its best to keep away from the traffic and crowds.....i'm planning a run out west which i would be happy for ya's to join me but dont know yet if it will fit into your time frame, if it does i'll let ya's know....keep ya eye on the rides and events section cause i'll probly post it there for anyone thats interested.

Go through the Bogong high plains on the way to Tassie, then back up the coast road with trips inland to avoid cities & to visit othe interesting areas.

Go down the West coast of Tassie then on to Huonville just south of Hobart, then up the East coast via Port Arthur and Triabunna back to the Ferry.

A good trip from the Goldy would be to head down south to Sydney. I thinking of doing something similar in reverse around easter.

You could either go south along the coast and then head inland through the Border Range National Park (near Murwillumbah) or go west via Warick and Stanthorpe to the New England Highway. There are some great hilly roads and you might avoid some of the traffic. Then head to Armidale (maybe base yourself there for a night or two) where you've got Waterfall Way, Oxley Hwy, and Thunderbolts Way all close by and all great rides. Then you could just cruise down to Sydney and its surrounds. Hit the Hunter Valley, Wisemans Ferry rd, Blue Mountains, South Coast via Royal National Park and Macquarie Pass. Plenty of great rides all pretty close by.

I reckon you should be able to fill up 10 days no worries.

    Cheers, Chris.
