Man....what is the trick taking a back wheel off a Fatboy!!!!! Every time it is a struggle. Getting it back on is just as bad!

I get it off, but geezus it shits me to tears. The drama and stuffing around to get it of...and back on for that matter. I hold my mouth right, I swear, curse, kick the dog, kick the bike and it is never easy!!!

I put the bike on the bike lift so the tyres are just touching the ground

    Remove the axle circlip

    Loosen the axle nut

Remove the upper and lower belt guards

Remove the rear brake caliper holding bolts

Back right off the belt adjusting bolts

    Remove the axle

Jack up the bike AND THEN START SWEARING ME F&*CKING TITS OFF CAUSE THE F%#CKING SPACERS WON'T COME OUT AND THE WHEEL WON'T SLIP OUT!! (The arsehole who designed that system needs a baseball bat shoved..........you get the picture!)

This should be in the WTF section!!

    Any hints??

As bad a Heritage it seems like. Although I don't seem to have half of the issues that you are having. Maybe you are holding your mouth wrong!

last tyre i had fitted i asked how much to just bring the wheel in thinking i would remove it myself and save a quid. quoted $15.00 to fit with rim out of bike,.$30.00 if they took the rim out. by the sounds of it , the best 30 bucks i could of spent. just sat back drinking a coke and watched the mechanic to all the work. and that was a peter stevens store.

You dont have to completely remove the guard. Take out the rear guard mount bolts, and loosen the front ones. The guard will pivot up. With the guard up, put the rear bolts in a couple of turns and rest the guard on them.

I thought I posted this last night, but the gremlins must have gotten it!! ;)

2009 fxst shitting me to tears. Wheel off no problems, getiing the spacers back in is the problem. When I do get it back on I will be reversing the axle so I dont have to take the rear muffler off.

My '07 Fatty gave me grief the 1st time i changed the tyre myself. Getting the pipe off was the 1st drama, then came the brake caliper. What a headache that is. I changed the pipes, i put on the clitorus pipes, V&H Big Shots. Next tyre change was great, no problems getting the wheel off, just that dang brake caliper. There just isn't an easy way to do it, just gotta be very careful you don't mark the rim. I'v'e done a few tyre changes now, it's still a bit iffy, but never had a problem with the spacers or any of that. Just that brake caliper.
