I am having some issues with my front brake lever.  It is not affecting braking in any way but, the lever does not return to the full off position occasionaly  and the brake light remaions on.  I have swapped out levers, changed the switch assy,  any ideas or would a rebuild kit fix the problem. The lever does return after a while when it has been sitting but not when you are using it when riding.   It more annoying than anything as I am consious of it and don't need the hassle of getting pulled over.  

Ant ideas of what could be causing the issues and how to fix the problem.  Brake flush and bleed, rebuild,etc.  Front brakes are a pain in the arse to bleed as well.

 

Bike is an 07 Softail.

I ordered the kit. The brake switch is ok as I replaced it not so long ago as the rubber seal had perished. I will give it a go this weekend....

I'm having the exact same problem on my 07 Fatboy. The front brake lever doesn't seem to be going home enough and the brake light often stays on. Did you fix your issue, AJ56, or has this been fixed by others? Would appreciate any help before I start bleeding and pulling apart the whole assembly.

LuckyMick yeah I put a new kit in the master cylinder thinking that was the issue, However that fixed it for a while and then it started again after about 7 mths. So sprayed some WD40 in behind the brake lever then worked the lever and that sorted the issue out. Every time I wash the bike that's what I do now so that the lever returns to its correct position. When I changed out the brake kit I did notice at the end of the brake cylinder inner housing that where the piston was traveling had built up a far amount of crap.

The issue is the build up of crap on the piston arm that pushes on the brake lever. Easy fix in the end without having to replace the piston assembly.
