All Gurus, looking for info about changing the rear sprocket on my '04 FXSTB. Being only a five speed I would like to drop the revs a bit while still keeping up with the newer 6 speeds who seem to like sitting on 140kmh out here . Any ideas on what size?
Cheers

1:1 is straight to the rear ratio, i would expect if you have 6 gears they could run a much taller final ratio. so it comes down to what final drive ratio the 6 speed has. but if you go to tall you risk lugging your motor & that does more damage than reving it, the bottom end has a hard time. but you could rev a 95 as lower piston speed than a 96.
That is all I am after. A few less revs on the highway. I thought the 6 speed was and overdrive but it is in fact a direct drive in 6th gear. Seems the cheapest thing to do is drop the rear pulley (it is a pulley, not a sprocket!) by two or three teeth so as to keep the standard belt. I have plently of torque down low and don't drop the clutch of the line so it should be fine. Just need to find the right size.
Thanks for your inputs.
not all 6 speeds have a 1:1 ratio 6th gear.
Ok what ones aren't? From what I've been looking at all the late model ones are but I know nothing about HD bikes let alone drive train ratios. What will dropping 2-3 teeth on the rear pully drop revs by at say 110kph?
ultima six speed 0.86 final drive i have one behind my little evo 70 tooth rear pulley 32 front , and i sit on at around 2800rpm to 3000rpm at 130kph
not sure about a twinkie ,on evo thay like 2500 to 2800 revs anything less and thay lug.
i got ultima 6 speed behind my little evo too, 32 tooth front and 65 tooth on the rear, was thinking of changing to 70 tooth as i need to be going around 130kph to use 6th gear. gotta change the belt , so bit of a job.
so ya reckon the 70 tooth will go on using the same belt? my top and bottom gards are to suit the 70 size pulley ( they have a gap).
how many tooth belt you runnin?
THANKS FOR THAT BRO......
sorry barmabush i only got around to count my teeth on my belt today i have std 32/65 pulley softail belt 130 teeth but run a 70 rear hope this helps
