hi, was it 1 of those eastern medi drivers in a 4 wheel drive with a thingie around it's head it could of fallen down over there eye's & couldn't see where they were driving , or it could of been a little bit nippie in a 4 wheel drive there even worse how can they see @ all with there eye's closed , hay there out there looking just for you when your on your motorbike , ride hard be free
Glad you're still here Isaac
Thank you people for your advice & well wishes. I'm still pretty sore everywhere and dappled in varying shades of yellow & purple but improving daily.
And get this: I have canckles! My Doctor laughed when he noticed . The ladies will be familiar with that term. It's when the calf & ankles are the same diameter; calf/ankles = cankles. The bruising to my legs has meant everything south is swollen & puffy. My feet look like footballs with toes! It'll be some time before I can wear heels...
But generally I feel OK ish when on the tablets but without them - like when I wake up - everything is back to day one. Even if the bike was replaced I couldn't ride for some time. Here's what's happening with bike & claim:
The bike is at the Dealers awaiting inspection & quote; this will be followed by a visit from the QBE Assessor to determine it's a write-off or a repair (maybe a one week wait?).
QBE says I need put all my gear into a box and mail it to Melbourne if I want to claim replacement costs.
They will then assess and destroy my stuff. I asked for my helmet back as a trophy (it'd look better on my bar than in their bin!) but nooooo coz I might sell it on at some stage... that being the case I'll try to save the battered front fender and convert it into a lamp shade!
Some assistance please; exactly what model is this bike below? I took the pic at the Gold Coast Morgan & Wacker Day recently (maybe it belongs to a Forum Member?) and I like the springer front end and I'm wondering if it's bog standard Harley or something else ?
If (and it's a big IF) the bike is repairable, then I'm assured (by two separate Bike Shops) the Engineers will check the frame in a jig and it'll be straighter than the day it left the Factory; does that sound right to you people? But if it can be repaired, I'm already considering a few changes - hence my question about the springer front end. I want a springer to bolt straight onto my Heritage with minimum jinning around with brakes & wheels etc. Some other cosmetic changes would be western bars, bullet indicators and maybe white wall tyres.
Any extra costs over & above the 'like for like' replacement parts will be mine of course (including a matching rear tyre), but NOW seems the right time to do it. Apparently my best case scenario is six weeks wait before I have another rig. Today I'm off to see a Solicitor so there's plenty of things moving forward - and the slowest thing of all is me!
Just had a call from my Insurer - apparently my bike is a write-off. I've now got a few forms to fill in before the matter can proceed.
And get this: my Insurer contacted her Insurer re this claim; her Insurer says I'm at fault ... now that better be just a standard response between Insurance Companys coz I'm gunna be reeeeally f*ckin' cranky if there's a dispute over blame on this!!!
Anyway, back to the bike; bulk of the damage appears to be the front end - and quite possibly the frame, so any idea what a wreck is worth should I want to buy it from my Insurer (ballpark figure)? Here's what it looks like:
Perhaps I can buy a frame & re-build from there. Dunno, but I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks Steamer; I've called them back (the Insurer) to clarify the verbal 'write-off' I was given and I'm informed it's a 'repairable write-off'. Hope to get a quote tomorrow for the cost of repairs.
But that still leaves me wondering about the cost to buy the wreck pre auction... anyone here had experience with this?
Thanks for the info fellas; opposing views but both make sense - gmeikle, unfortunately I don't share your mechanical ability to totally re-build my cycle from spares but kudos to you on your mammoth collecting & re-building effort!
And Crasher, it turns out the frame was twisted and bent/ humped under the tank; I'd always wonder/worry about the repair if I followed that path...
I heard figures of $10K & $15K & $18K just for the wreck. Add to that all associated parts & re-build costs and a lifetime 'repaired wreck' noted on any future sale search... but as it happens the wreck was hauled away some 12 hours after my last post so it's already in some auction holding yard!
So that's that.
Dunno when I'll get another rig but I've already started looking at a few (Deluxes x 2 and old school Springer x 1). It'll likely be another softail but right now I need to do some number crunching.
Yeah, absolutely Pizz; I agree 100%. Sorry to read you're in such a bad way, particularly with being unable to work and all. I'll be back at work this coming Monday so things could've been worse. I still can't sleep properly which is why I'm on the interweb at 0230hrs - and pulling on socks and sneezing absolutely canes. But all things considered, I'm in far better condition than many who've adopted the starfish position on a car door...
Money........ unfortunately I don't own the bike outright so the Bank will get the bulk of the payout. I'm expecting $7K tops. My extras were on the bike from purchase so were covered in the original insurance deal (agreed value thank f*ck).
My insurance.............. it turms out QBE won't pay for my jacket coz it's more than ten years old (1995 purchase). My assurances the jacket was in perfect nick prior to Grandma DeathLord's intervention carries no weight at all. I've checked the web (USA & UK only) for identical replacements and they retail for no less than $900. I haven't given up there coz it was some collectors edition type thing so that's my angle on that one. But right now I can claim only my Levis and a $130(?) sturgis lid. Whoop de f*ckin' do!
I'm a persistent prick so I haven't given up entirely but jeez what a hassle. I don't wish to affect my 'no claim' status so why should $1000 worth of gear replacement be my cost at all? That's another Grandma cost as far as I'm concerned.
Legal stuff............. several forum members advised/ encouraged I should speak with a Solicitor and I've followed that up. I've started that ball rolling but he reckons it could take 18 months to fully resolve the injury chasing route as the system has changed a tad over the past few years.
Apparently 'pain & suffering' is no longer any big deal - it's the long term medical effects that carry weight in Court rulings nowadays; much like your own issues Pizz. But should I wish for a permanent injury for some cheesey payout? I'd rather have good health, thanks. But anyways, ongoing medical testing is what's gunna drag this one out.
So yeah, I'm vigorously chasing all that's required - again thanks for the forum advice - and will see this one to the end. And on a cheery note here's what my teenage boy had to say when I told him my prang story:
"HAHAHA, Dad got OWNED by a Grandma!!"
If it goes to court you'll win easily, too much proof on your side if it boils down to her words against yours. The fact that it was a t-bone makes her story unlikely. It's just a waist of your time chasing everything up.
Keep those photos you took from your car of the accident scene ... they can only go in your favour ... GOOD LUCK mate! .. AND all the best for Christmas and New Year to you too!
