Yeah, I'm interested too
I was at peter stevens on Sat and asked about the XR calliper and braided line. They said it would be approx $900 to do. Group buy would be worth it if we can still do it.
Thanks Scouser. I might have to take you up on that offer for a carton of beer or a bottle of scotch or something.
I'm doing some research now to where is the best place to find the parts. I'll try and get a written quote from the stealers to compare.
Scouser ur a champ, I'll order them on Monday then. I'll keep you posted.
You might as well tell me what u drink as I'm bringing a bottle of something with me when we get around to doing it.
Slapster, I saw that but the dealer said they wont fit. Don't want to risk ordering it and then find out I'm stuck with it. I'm happy to pay a few extra $$ for something I know will fit especially when some friendly labour is around!
Shit Scouser I just realised its my niece & nephew's bday on sun.
Maybe the next sunday. I'll wait for your PM
Try your local harley dealer dillai. I paid around $220 for the caliper and $150 for the black braided line. My line was too long so had to have it shortened though.
Have just fitted the XR caliper (HD42943-08) to my 2012 Iron, all went well except it now has a scuff mark on the wheel spokes caused by the caliper casting rubbing on the wheel. Fortunately I found the mark while in the garage before riding.
Going back over posts in this thread I noticed i'm not the first for this to have happen to. So in the interest of sharing knowledge i'll try and post a few pics so people can get a clear idea of what to look out for when doing a self-install of the caliper.
By the way it's a HUGE improvement on braking and well worth the money. Lighter action on the lever, better feel when braking, more predictable, ability to pull up quicker, brake later, more confidence etc. I will be fitting a braided line and floating disc in due course. For the moment I like to try things in stages and determine the difference as I go.
Part sourced from HH in Adelaide, list price $233.25, paid $209.95 with discount. Picked up a bottle of DOT 4 brake fluid for $10.
It would have been a 1 long neck beer job, but because I had to file and re-check clearance it was 2 long necks.....
No special tools needed and no need for a dealer to do either, so anyone considering this as mentioned by others have a go and do it yourself.
Thanks to others for posting advice here, it has helped me a lot!
XR caliper (HD42943-08) on 2012 Iron
Showing rear where it had to be filed for clearance between the spoke and calliper
Tight tolerance between caliper and spoke
Front view, I checked using feeler gauges the gap is actually around 0.68mm after filing the bottom section of the caliper and now doesn't rub
Showing the scuff mark that is unfortunately on each spoke, it the small horizontal line across the polished section of the spoke. Best to check this before riding by pushing the bike on flat ground and listening for a scratching sound or ideally using feeler gauges before turning the wheel.
