Hi, i am looking for a bit of extra power, i was looking at the mikuni 42 to replace my stock carby on my 99 model dyna twincam 88 cube, Looking at mikuni website - http://www.mikuni.com/fs-products_guides.html they say there is approx 25% or approx 10 to 20hp difference, does anyone know how true this could be?, whats everyones thoughts on this? will it be worth the money? or should i just go new headwork, cams, pistons? any other suggestions for increase of bottom end power?

    thanks

You will notice a crisper throttle response, but not torque by just changing to the Mikuni HSR42 carb. For that you will need to add some more cubes.

at present on my stock carby, i have the thunderslide kit in it, which gave it a heap better response than the stock one. just checking out the woods website, their dyno reports look impressive. i am still up in the air about modifying the internals of the motor, but looks like i will have to lean that way.

If you want a little more snap off the line, I'd just lower the gearing. Use a smaller pulley on the gearbox, or convert to chain. I like chains, Luddite that I am. Make sure that one of the sprockets has a prime number of teeth. Like 23 or 47 or 53.

    LUDDITE ??????

    1. One who fears technology (or new technology, as they seem pleased with how things currently are...why can't everything just be the same?)

    2. A group led by Mr. Luddite durring the industrial revolution who beleived machines would cause workers wages to be decreased and ended up burning a number of factories in protest
A luddite generally claims things were "just fine" back in the day, and refuses to replace/update failing equipment/software/computers on the basis that they were just fine 10 years ago.

Chain drive is more like back to the future. With the high quality sealed lube chains available now, they are way better than ever before, while allowing a less expensive final drive with less mass and more flexible gearing options. Replacing a worn chain is duck soup, compared to an endless belt. It also allows a wider rear wheel, if that is in your plans.
