I had to go to the advanced power settings (a link near the bottom of the power options window) and expand the power button and lid item and you can set the lid close action from there... at least thats the way it is on my ACER running windows 7.

     Hey mate,

So you may have a few problems here. Go to your power settings in control panel or just type start > run > powercfg.cpl

Now you need to change the plan settings, you should have two options one with power pluged in and one on battery, you need to change it for what ever one you want or both.

If these options are greyed out then it means you don't have permission to apply anything. You need to log in as administrator or give your account administrator rights. If you got your pc from harvey norman or something like that and don't know the password you may need to use a offline boot disk to change the password.

Let me know if you still having problems

    one_oak,

i think your hit the nail on the head.i purchased this from harvey norman.it was setup as display model.

tried the above options you mentioned but its all greyed out.

when i first fired up the computer it didnt ask me to register or anything which seemed a bit strange.

    Hi mate.

I'm using windows 7 on a brand new laptop which was also set up as a display from harvey norman and regularly change the settings for what closing the lid does.

I'm at work and don't have it in front of me to check this exactly but give this link a shot.

    http://maximumpcguides.com/windows-7/set-the-lid-close-action-in-power-options/

Let me know if this isn't helpful and I'll physically do it and post a step by step.

    Cheers, Jet

hey guys problem solved with samsung netbook.

this particular netbook has a samsung program called FAST START which overides the power options in windows 7.

once FAST START is disabled i was able to change the closing lid settings.
