Since upgrading the firmware to the TMax a few weeks ago I've been noticing the engine warning light coming on. It usually occurs when I'm doing high speed or accellerating hard for long periods of time (makes sense).
I plugged in the laptop to the bike today to read in the TMax info and I noticed that the "Engine Temp Alarm Threshold" in "Basic Settings" had gone down to around 330 degrees. This is odd because the base map (415) has it set to 350.
When checking the Head Temp Logs, it had logged the Head Temp to a maximum of 352 degrees on three occasions. All makes sense but strange that the threshold had gone down. I've set it back to 350.
Just wondering if anyone else has had their head temp alarm threshold change after loading the base map?
I've also fiddled with the Accel Fuel (set it to 13 from 12.5) to further try to improve the pinging issue which still exists slightly. I might increase it to 13.5 as it's still there at 13 although it was almost gone.
Also, is it recommened to clear the learned fuel adjustments and re-initialise the TMAX after making any change such as Accel Fuel?

Hi, I have fitted and played around with the thundermax ecu since 2006 both open and closed loop, on Dyna's, and Softails, and a few with extreme mods, the thundermax system I believe is the best around, now for the sporster experience with the thundermax closed loop, A friend has a 883 with the usual high flow air cleaner and he also has screaming eagle mufflers fitted. we put his new thundermax closed loop system on his bike a few weeks ago, he did not have much time and was told by the so called experts in USA where he purchased it that all would be ok to run directly on installation, I usually run the bike and test the installation linked to my garage PC and with the monitor on showing guages for engine head temp, idle rpm, and view the idle speed versus engine chart, I also watch the battery charging guage, and afr. On the sporster before my hurried friend went on his long weekend ride i wanted to run the bike as i usually do on all new installations until it reaches head temp of 327F, if you are going to trace a fault like you have indicated thundermax gives you all the tools required. Any way I cleared all the learned fuel adjustments ect. and he was off. After the weekend away he came around and told me his light was coming on after a prolonged period of hard riding. You must understand that the head temp sensor on the sporsters are buried deeper inside the barrell compared to a Dyna or Softie, therefore the temperature of the sensor must be set directly higher to compensate for this, thundermax "Zippers" suggests a setting to 425F, what i do for the sporster is use a digitherm on my dyna and compared the same temp to the position on the sporster and now set his sporster to 390F. downloaded the new setting into his ecu and no more high speed problems. I run the bike up to this temp hooked to my PC without any problems, I cleared all the previous offsets including idle control, lowered his idle down to 880rpm at running temp, enabled decel fuel cut 1. Aso I must add that his ecu was flashed with a new firmware given to me from thundermax EFI_THUNDERMAX-01_Version47_04-02-08.B19, when I link a bike i always turn off all other running prg's including virus checkers. Also I always turn the bike on and after the new downloads are set i pull the maxifuse while the bike is turned on but not running, then put it back and initialize the ecu as suggested by the makers.
I must also comment that my sporster friend he is very impressed with the extra performance and smoothness of his 883 after the installation.

By the way I have a screaming eagle pro race fueller setup on my ecu, not because i like it but the wife got it put on without my knowledge, as a present when i picked up my new fxdci 105 anniv

As you probably know by now I dont post very often, Sorry Boys and Girls, Now I am not going to get into any SHOUTING and name calling or even saying I told you so but Let me say the Thundermax like all things man made can be improved on, so I am going to tell you all what i think personally is wrong and should be fixed with this mother of a ecu.
Firstly/ Whatever thundermax version ecu you have "ver 1, Ver2 sportie" I cannot believe that the communication cable socket is not covered when not in use,.
2/ Is sitting upwards to collect moisture.
3/ Has to be left with the data link cable connected when fitted to a dyna without any protection to the cable PC end.
So firstly I would like to see a new version with this fault rectified, and a cable coming down from the side, this is only one mod i would like, and of course proper length cables to the wide band sensors.
And I cannot try to ask for a correct fit without using a dremel on a dyna, I usually make up a short cable and set the TM ecu differently in a different spot.
Now on to the new HD from the factory, I have noticed on some new bikes "especially Softies" that the throttle position is not set correctly from the factor, if this is the case you will be notified by the bike before you do any mods, usually the bike when warm and the ignition is fired up should not increase in revs, if it does and the bike is at operating temp then the TPS must be rectified.
Also If a pinging problem is with the bike from new it is usually because the spark plugs are not indexed. and they should be checked before any mods, if this does not correct the problem I would suggest on a new bike to use some Fuel Additive at the recommended dosage HD no:99893-91A or any other brand that you can get if the pinging stops try another garage for fuel. I had this problem in 2006 with a new bike, i changed garages and no more probs, let me say on a new motor for the first 2000KMs i always use a fuel additive especially in cold weather.

Yeah I agree,Zippers should supply the correct cable,I bought the adaptor for $85 from Dick Smith plugged it in to the son in laws lap top and it didn't work so I took it back. I was told by H.D. Motorcycles that you are better off buying a cheap adaptor because in their experience the expensive ones don't work ?? GO FIGURE.

Have you finished KC TMAX on his bike yet, I thought I would be a good neighbour and let you know all new downloads available today for upgrading almost everything that was TMAX software, I like the new colours available in the module configurations, makes it easy to let you know whats on the bike and what you are changing. also the auto tune low and high temp area now being addressed. Also the rear cylinder timing against TPS area, for bikes with Pinging probs.

Yep, Scotty came round on Saturday an we loaded up the latest firmware on the TMAX (3.8), the bike seems to run better on it. The engine temp light should be sorted now as we set the threshold well above the maximum logged temprature but still within a reasonable range for the Sporty as others have said the head temp sensor for the sporty is buried in the top of the rear head so a higher temp is recorded compared to the BT's. The pinging is definately better on the newer firmware it only seems to be there when the bike is cold, don't really understand it? Due to my sillyness I cleared any learned fuel adjustments by re-loading my base map before Scotty could take a look but I've started the learing again and have done about 70k's so we'll have to take a look at that later.
I got mine from Morgan & Wacker in Brissy, $630 and they downloaded the map for free. Talk to Gary Dick if you are in Brisbane if you are not I'm sure they would send you one anyway. You can pick em up for about $500 in the states but getting the map loaded made the choice easy for me. Generaly you will pay $700 anywhere else without the map. The autotune is about $900 from the states and $1200 here.
