Victoria Police Blitz

Our little town, just north of Melbourne was absolutely swarming with cops today.  Inevitably, we got pulled over on the bike at a breath test/drug bus station and were shepherded into a special section set aside especially for bikes.  Got breath tested and licence & bike checked by an extremely polite female Snr Sgt.  Mentioned we had noticed the town swarming with coppers, and asked were they blitzing our little town (at the base of a mountain very popular with bike riders).  She said yes they were, because of all the recent fatal bike accidents occurring in Vic.  We checked out okay and were sent on our way with well wishes.  In light of all the negative comments about the way police treat bikers that I have read lately, I just wanted to say that the copper we dealt with was lovely, even though we were on a Harley, we were treated with nothing but respect.  I know a lot of you think all coppers are pigs, but just remember that they are just doing their job!

For Vic bike riders, be aware that they are on the prowl and know when you are out on your bike, that they are looking for you.  Make sure you are always carrying your licence and that your bike is both registered and roadworthy.

(Okay ... ready for the onslaught!!! LOL)

Also pro police this week. turned off the hume onto a country road. Speed drops from 110 to 100 but I had set the cruise control and forgot all about it. Let off with a warning. Good and bad everywhere I suppose.

But will their blitz have any effect on the road toll at all?? I like to see that stats on those blitzes and if they have any effect or if its just all PR.

Was stopped going over the Strezleckies. Very polite officer ( a bike rider himself) was stopping all bikes for a bit of pro-active policing. Apart from a licence & rego check, (nothing else...including pipes), he asked everyone to take responsability for their actions on the road as too many motor cyclists were killing themselves. (The way they rode, protective clothing etc). A good sensible approach. Friend didn't have a visible rego holder. IT had broken off & was carried under the seat. He reminded us that it must be visible, to get it fixed, & sent us on our way.  It was done in such a way that we even cracked a few jokes with him. He had our respect for the way he conducted the whole thing.

Sorry to interrupt this love-in we all seem to be having with our local police but, as far as I'm concerned, the current lot of VicPol are nothing but a bunch of gutless tax collectors. When I was a kid and a youngster, I (and everyone I knew) had a lot of respect for the cops. They'd give you a clip around the ear if you deserved it but they were great to have around if there was trouble. NOBODY gave the cops a hard time - we all knew what would happen if we did. These days they're good for nothing. Remember how they sat cowering in their cars recently when those dickheads were rioting in Oakleigh? Not a SINGLE arrest while everything was getting smashed because the cops didn't want to "inflame" the situation! Then, afterwards, the cops went on Facebook and politely asked the rioters to "turn themselves in"! Anyone else remember the G20 riots in melbourne a few years ago? Again, protesters were just smashing cars and everything else in sight while the cops did the same thing - cowered behind a barrier and then, afterwards, went on TV to ask them to turn themselves in. There's that famous photo that was taken on the day of a tu-tu wearing girl TAKING A COPS BATON OFF HIM!!!!!!!!!!! Recently, when our brothers in one of the larger patch clubs rode through Victoria the cops refused to book a single one of them even though some of them were doing 140km/h. THAT would have got MY license instantly revoked and my bike confiscated. Heaps more examples locally where the cops refused to take ANY action at the time, even though people and property were in immediate danger. So what DO they do? Swagger around spending all their time hiding behind bushes dressed in camo' gear to catch drivers / riders doing 3km/h over the limit - hassle young kids for not wearing bicycle helmets - form special 'Muck-Up Day' Task forces to catch kids throwing eggs on their last day of school (I kid you not! - a "Task Force" for Christ's sake!). Again, I could go on. I lived in the USA for a number of years and I have nothing but respect for their LEO's (Law Enforcement Officers) but I have nothing but contempt for our current lot of TC's (Tax Collectors).

The whole point I'm trying to make, Beaver, is that, in Victoria the only time you have to worry if you "brake" the law is if you're a soft target because VicPol are too gutless and too politicised to make any effort against hard targets.
