I have had my Deniem Black FLHT for over 16 months now and the paint is still good, easy to keep clean, I just was it with hot water and she's done.  1 thing to rember about this paint is if you rub it exsevilly it will start to shine. Once evry 6  moths I give it a good wash with detergent just to make sure I get all the crap of.

For the price they charge for a Harley, they need a good cut and polish.

Had the the Matt Black Fatbob for 8 months/13,000 kays now.

One thing I've noticed is the paint is tough!.........plenty of stone chips on the fork sliders (gloss black) but nothin on the tanks!.......and believe me, theres plenty of road re-sealing going on around here at the moment! I often hear stones bouncin off the tinware!!

Be careful when packin luggage, etc...............I used to have a larger bag that I carried to work each day, strapped over the pillion seat. It used to rub slightly on the guard and now I have some shiny spots there!

As far as washing goes, I just wash the whole bike with truckwash as per usual, just try not to rub paint too much! ............All good!

    Burto.

Mine is 15months old now and seems to require the same maint as gloss paint does.

I do use the harley recommended spray after a wash and its all good.

The only thing that pisses me off is when people say "oh flat black!!" while they are rubbing their grubby little hands on it. Oils and sweat fron skin show up. But easy to wash off.

    Cheers

The Harley black denim is not a paint finish, they are actually powder coat.

I talked to a well know custom bike painter about getting a custom job on a brand new bike just before I brought the Nightrain, he informed me if I planned on getting it painted not to buy the Black Denim as they are actually powder coat and are a mongrel to paint as they need lots of prep work, etcher paints and undercoating, I was better off getting gloss black as they are painted and are far easier to custom paint.

He did say that the powder coat finish is exceptionally durable and lasts really well.

Got a matte black paint job done on mine. Not HD but through a mate at a panel beater. He recommended using a silicone spray on the guards and tank. Once ride is finished you just wipe it down with a clean cloth and it comes up like new, no scratching, it seems to catch all the grit before it touches the paint work. The silicone spray also brings up things like brake calipers, primary cover etc like new.

Pity the can's about $15 each but I get about 6 rides out of it ($2 fitty per ride) so time vs money not too bad.

I put my matt black bike on the road in about 91/92. I went flat black chrome and powdercoat mostly. the tank is satin black as I had a problem with sealing the total matt colour. Washed it about twice in 20 odd years which was the plan originally. spose i should wash it again one day. nah.

My opinion for what it is worth is that a lot of people have gone the flat look.

Yep, always loved the flat look ever since that famous XB GT Coupe. Flat grey is what I will go next.

Well for me Dyna the most time consuming part was removing the tank, but that takes all of 1/2 an hour now. Draining the fuel was the longest part, but then again my speedo and tacho aren't tank mounted. Then comes the rear guard and it's takes bugger all time but I can drop the rear wheel down pretty easy to get to the bolt up under the guard. Front fender, 2 mins.

As for cost, can't help ya. Mate at his panel shop did mine.

Try to ignore this is a Japanese car I'm talking about...

Last week I saw a Lexus sedan (some so-called sporty model with low profile tyres etc) painted in black denim. It looks fantastic! First time I've ever seen this on a car and it was a very mean look, even on a Lexus. Hope this doesn't spread. I thought this look belonged to us!
