Thought I would post this to see if anyone else has had problems with their Vance & Hines 2 into 1 Exhaust.
Recently I purchased this exhaust, after a few hundred K's I noticed that the pipe on the front exhaust was getting these light coloured spots over it. Later the spotted marks started to travel down towards the heat shield.
Shortly aftwards I noticed similar marks on the rear exhaust at the bend just before the heat sheild, now the spots started to break apart looking like it was bare metal which made the exhaust look like crap, I had only had these pipes for about a week when this problem started to occur.. I hadn't washed the bike with any detergent of any type. Most of the time when I finish riding I just chamios the bike as it never gets that dirty. I have since emailed Vance & Hines, they asked me to send them some photos which I did. They eventually got in touch with the Australian Distributer and they replaced this exhaust which was a good thing.
Has anyone had a similar problem with the so called ceramic coating which they apply to this exhaust, I would be interested to know if there was a bad batch of paint applied to certain pipes during production.
yup... have one of their 2-1 in black and the finish is fucked, just as you described. Have been thinking of writing to them.
Looking at my new replacement pipe it looks like its starting the same thing all over again.
When I originally emailed a guy at Vance & Hines he said that they hadn't experienced any problems with the Black Ceramic coating.
I will keep an eye on this exhaust, if it turns out the to be the same problem, I might take the exhaust off and take it to a local company that does ceramic coating for Race engines to see if their product is any better.
Really would like to keep this style of pipe on my bike as I really like the styling and it goes with the other RSD stuff I have also the RSD Billete wheels I hope to be getting soon.
Keep you guys posted, sorry to hear you guys are having similar problems the ceramic coating.
