Can't you just look at the end and see what shape it is? Allen key or a screw driver would get it out wouldn't it?

Yep it has got a grub screw but nothing seems to fit it to get it out. I've tried the multi grips to undo cable but it wont budge. I'm thinking maybe I should drill it out.

If its the same as the one Ive just done on my 1994 Dyna superglide it a realy small flathead screwdriver so fuckin small I had to use the missus sewing machine screw driver to fit it.

This I didnt find until I pulled the front wheel off & took the whole speedo drive off cause I couldnt get the fuckin cable out of it.

I had the same problem with my softail, even with magnifying glasses i couldnt see shit, tried all my hex key's and my smallest is thinner than a pin, didnt even cross my mind it may be flathead screw........so next time i had it at the workshop i asked ol mate to put new speedo cable on........the first time i took it to that dude he told me the problem will be the speedo cause it was cheap shit, he replaced it with a nice silver unit which looked way better on the bike than the old black faced one, it worked well for about 2 days then went crazy til finally it didnt work at all, so this last time i asked for new cable ( the original was routed stupid with sharp bends etc so everyone agreed it was enough to break the cable)......again it worked great for about 2 day's worth of riding and now its gone crazy again....so now i dont know if its the drive or the non original wheel that is the problem.

    Thanks Guys

I ended up drilling it out with no probs I'll just have to retap and put another in there.
