G'day fellas, looking to improve the rear suspension on my Softail Deluxe and wanting some feedback on either the Fournales or the Shotgun shocks...

The Shotguns get a lot of praise over on the US site, and some say air ride is the best???  but I don't really wan't to run an air ride with all the exztras like worrying about running a compressor and pressurised air lines etc.... The Fournales style shock is much simpler.

    Which is better?

Are you sure, I have this system and had some upgrades done for free (bigger compressor and removable bolts, to drop down for easier
access to transmission) It would be a shame as the owner JD was very helpfull and always answered every question.

Thanks for the replies..... would be a real shame if Shotgun went belly up. They seem to be the best air ride system on the market from what I have read.

mOngre1 , Hooker arn't out of Business, They just Stopped making and selling products for Motorcycles. And yes I still sell them Because VPW is one of their Aust Distributers and I we buy Bulk, so I do have about 150 or so Systems in Stock ..
Shot gun are a great system,, I sell them too, But it's realy hard to sell something when you place Orders with the guy and he can't supply because he carnt buy the martial to build them. The small amount of Shot Gun that is sold in this Country over a year wouldn't even cover the guys rent for a month . The US is hurting bad, Ivé got a few suppliers over there that their contact Banks Contact me just to confirm the Order is real just so they can get money to build the stuff for us.

Fournales. The only way to go.
Then stick a set of Ricor Intiminators in the front forks.

I run Platinum bleed & feed air ride on my Deluxe which is similar to the Shotgun.  Before that I had progressive 422's which is similar to fournales.  I like the look of my ride really low, but hated the fact that when I went round corners I had enough sparks to start a bush fire and was sick of manually adjsuting load & height everytime I went 2-up.  Now it's just a flick of a switch.  It takes much longer to install the air-ride, but to me well worth the headache.

I hope Shotgun Shock can stand the U.S. economy as this is an aftermarket item where most people

cannot experience the ride without almost getting devorced. I know firsthand.

But real cheap at the moment.

I e-mailed JD overall 20 odd times for several different reasons and got replies almost immediately

during which he did repairs and upgrades my system whithout cost

And from others on a US forum cannot say enough about JD and his shock.

Very helpfull and a geniune bussiness man which I believe he would honor his workmanship.

This air ride will do it all. From rockhard bone jarring  to a cushion of air.

    What more is there

. And if you think you can't DYI?         I did and I'm no mechanic just a scaffolder.

if you shop around youll find the deals...i picked up a set of Fournales air spring shockies for less than half of what that frog eatin tosser is charging so i bought 2 sets.. 1 for the fatty and 1 for the X-Bones...by fuck i have re-written the book on the handling of the X-Bones after buying the air spring front shockie for the X-bones as well...for less than $1200 the X-bones is the smoothest fucken ride i have ever ridden..it has improved the braking and fucken out performs the fatty in the corners...haaa i havent put the shockies in the fatty yet so things may change...10/10 for the Fournales air spring front and rear shockies on the X-Bones....thats my take

I also have a Deluxe and my partner hates the ride after a couple of hours. I'm hearing mixed reports with the 422's, but as for the budget, these look the goods to me. Thoughts??? Who in Sydney would be the guys to fit them, or is it easy to do yourself?

    +1 Crasher

I landed Fournales air spring shocks & compact air pump here from U.K. for $903.00AU, Frog wanted $1700.00 delivered + $400.00 for a pump. LOL

Just did my first 2000 kms with the shocks last weekend, they got better the more kms I did, doesn't wallow or scrape now, its a diferent bike, highly recommended.

I ordered my Fournales from UK on 25-09-10 & received them bout 2 weeks later, so they where still shipping 2 months ago & fuck Frog if he wants to screw the aussies so bad, I'm sick of gettin screwed by my so called aussie mates.

The internet has opened up an international market to me & if the locals don't start playing fair I will continue to shop OS, fuck em like they have done to me for to long.

    I feel better now.

    Cheers

Hey Wallah, can I ask where you got them from and how much did you pay?  Seems to be the most cost effective way that I can see.

Berms, They are still firm but are giving a softer ride the more kms I do which is what Fournales said would happen.

The firmness & ride height are adjustable & I'm still playing with the settings to find my perfect pressures, what I have realised after doin 2000kms through the twisties is that it's a different bike with these shocks, I'm not sure you can get a shock that has a soft ride & handles great, I'm stoked with these shocks, I'm beginning to see why everyone raves about them.

    Cheers

Don't know if you bought already but I've got Fournales and they are fantastic. I like a firm ride and these babies have been fantastic. I like the fact that I can also adjust the ride height from slightly above standard to slammed.  I do a lot of country riding and they have stopped by neck and back taking a hammering but equally have made the bike much more controllable when I have to do a section of red dirt highway. They are not cheap but they completely changed the quality of my ride. I wrote a blog here to follow the early stages of ownership - http://fournales.blogspot.com/
